Very slow charging
Has anyone experienced very slow charging? I plug my phone in at night when I go to bed (usually around 15-20%) and 8 hours later, I'm not even over 90%. I've tried 2 different chargers and two different outlets, same result.
My TP2 charges perfectly off the port and charger. |
Re: Very slow charging
It takes around 3 hours to charge mine. However I have the 99% issue

Re: Very slow charging
Well, the battery will take a bit longer to charge because of the capacity, but 8 hours later is a bit much. Try a battery pull and charge it again. Or drain completely, pull battery and try again. If not take it in.

Re: Very slow charging
It definitely takes a few hours to get a full charge, and charges really slow if you use it during that process. My Evo charged twice as fast and I think a lot of us are used to that. It is not lasting twice as long however. I haven't seen the battery improvement yet, but it's only my second day with the phone.

Re: Very slow charging
I'm having the same problem with my evo3d. It would take me around 1-3 hours to charge my evo4g. Now on my evo3d it takes 6-8 hrs for it to charge completely. The problem is that I got my phone on wirefly and since its under 30 days if there is a problem it has to be exchanged for a new phone not a refurbished one. I hope this is not a problem specific to my phone but can be fixed with an update.

Re: Very slow charging
I am not so certain that it is an issue of slow charging, but possible an issue of battery use during charging. Try charging your phone while it is off and see how much faster it charges. If it charges faster then you need to look at what is using your battery up while it is on (like BT, 4G, WiFi, etc).
I noticed the same issue. I found that it was remedied (at least somewhat) by turning off my WiFi. |
Re: Very slow charging
my phone is able to pull 2+ days of normal usage without NEEDING to recharge. Definitely better then the original 4g

Re: Very slow charging
I guess I should have explained that I had an 1800mAh battery in the TP2 for my comparison.
It charges faster with the phone off, but I don't understand what would be draining the battery THAT much. Reason being, I get pretty damn good battery life off the charger. Took it off this morning at 7 am (said 96%) and at 330 now, I'm at 81% with moderate use and relatively crappy service in my office. |
My evo charged in less than 2hrs with all radios turned on. If I have to turn off my 3d for it to charge faster then this phone is definitely going back. I'm really getting annoyed at the battery life. What's the point of having an awesome phone when you can barely use it before its dead?

Re: Very slow charging
Just wanted to add that I had mine plugged in to the computer last night to charge, it sat there for 8.5 hours, and when I turned it on this morning, it was at 1/2 charge. The phone was "on" but EVERYTHING else was off, no mobile, no wifi, no 4g, etc.

Computer will charge any phone slowly, although the 3d does seem a bit longer.

Also the 3vo battery is a bit larger, which IMO, does make a difference (in extended use and charging). So use the wall charger, it should take 1-2 hours |
Re: Very slow charging
So by your calcs, it should take 4 hours to charge on the computer. if you leave it plugged in for 8 hours, and it is only 50% charged, something isn't right.

Re: Very slow charging
install battery monitor widget, it will tell you at what current the battery is charging, 400-800mah is about what i average with my evo and 3d.

Re: Very slow charging
Thanks, i will check it out.

I no longer have battery charging time taking to long. Now my voltage in the battery is too high and can cause overhearing. I'm exchanging my phone and hopefully it doesn't happen again.

Re: Very slow charging
how high is it getting??? anything over 4.25-4.3v is could cause a scary problem.
|
Re: Very slow charging
on my phone,
at 94% charged, the battery is at 4.2v, and at 97-99% the battery is at 4.385v. I imagine it does go higher than that before it hits 100%. |
Re: Very slow charging
i just took mine off the charger, its at 4.23v 99%, which is good, but when i looked at the voltage graph it hit 4.34 while charging which is pretty high. i never noticed my evo go above 4.2. all lithium batters are charged by a method called cc/cv, or constant current until the pack hits the cut off voltage which is normally 4.2 then it drops the charge rate to maintain 4.2v until the charge rate drops to a set point. some lithium battery's have better cut of tolerances but 4.4 is about the top of the safe zone, some battery's will start to get very hot above 4.3v.

Re: Very slow charging
Currently charging at 425mah through usb port while not using the phone. GPS and Mobile background are on.

Re: Very slow charging
the usb ports on your pc will only push a max of 500ma, so once you consider what the phone used there isn't alot of current to charge the battery with. you can have the same problem with cheap chargers too.

Re: Very slow charging
if its a 3.0 then it SHOULD be able to push 900mah max, but where or not it will is another story. stock charger is rated 5v @ 1A

Re: Very slow charging
started to to have the same issue a few days ago. the phone was on the charger most of the day and it wont get to 100% charge.

Re: Very slow charging
I had mine plugged in for an hour to my computer - same usb port that charged and charges my other sprint phone and my BT headset - both working fine with the new HTC usb cable - unfortunately my phone just gets really hot and after an hour plugged in was just as dead as when I plugged it in.

Re: Very slow charging
i downloaded the battery monitoring app, bought a new charger cable with gold plated ends and now it charges. before the new cable, sometimes while charging, the battery drainage would be much greater than the incoming power.

Re: Very slow charging
my unit has been having the same problem for a few weeks now...last nite got home at 4am put the phone to charge and at 8am it was still charging
|
Re: Very slow charging
BTW, if you're charging your phone and using it heavily (bluetooth/wifi for example) your batter will die faster because heat has negative effects on it.
