Engadget Evo 3D Review up

HTC EVO 3D review -- Engadget

been waiting for one :D
Can't wait to ditch Windows Mobile on my TP2 despite the shortcomings

"But our biggest gripe with the EVO 3D is its terrible battery life, which is even worse than what we observed on the already lackluster EVO 4G"

http://reviews.cnet.com/smartphones/...-34554507.html

Cnet review says battery life is better than EVO 4g hmmmm

Thanks for this, it was good to see the video.

I'm still excited about it and am still definitely getting it. Especially when I compare everything that it is to my TP2.

I have to admit...the review does worry me a little bit. At the same time, I can't help but think back to other people (mainly at CTIA) who got to play with 3D that said it looked great. A friend of mine got to play with one, and she said the 3D photos look great. She does not work at Sprint, and goes through Verizon. She's actually thinking about switching over now, because of the E3D. However, she has a phone that has been around for like 3 years...so what looks new and exciting to her, may not be as impressive to many of us.

As for battery life....idk. They said it was pretty bad, but they said they barely used it. At the same time, they took a ton of photos, videos, checked e-mail, twitter, browsed the web, and most likely played around with the upgraded UI to me. After 14hrs of all that, I'm pretty sure most phones would be about ready to die. I'm not saying they used it non-stop for 14hrs, but doesn't that seem more like heavy use?? IDK...maybe I missed something.

Obviously, I couldn't see the 3D effect of the photos in the Gallery they provided. The 2D pics didn't look so bad to me. Maybe not quite as good as the Evo 4G, but it is a phone...right? The video did seem a little more choppy, too. I don't use my camera all that much anyway.

I know I'm still gonna get it... I just hope the 3D isn't pure crap. Like everyone else, I have my own likes and opinions...but I do trust Engadget to an extent.

Thoughts?

I have to admit the review was concerning. But for me it was more the realization and further confirmation that Sprint's 4g network has the potential to really fall behind the competition. Idk, upgrading for another wimax phone makes me pause right now. Also the camera review has me wondering if the evo 4g takes better pics? I guess we will see how it compares soon enough. I going to check out the sensation tomorrow since t-mobile has them on display just to get an idea of the screen and performance.

I can say from first hand experience from my time with the phone that the 3D screen is not perfect. The viewing angles are indeed very very strict. Even more so than the 3DS.

The rest of the complaints regarding build/picture quality/screen is not too big a concern for me. Battery life could be if it is as bad as engadget says it is. Thanks for posting the other reviews. gonna check those out too

Regarding battery life, that will improve once the developers get to play around with it. Also, doesn't the battery life on the EVO's improve with time anyway? I thought right out of the box they don't do so great, but after a couple of charge cycles it improves quite a bit? And the camera thing, I am not too worried about that, although if the Galaxy was out at the same time I'd really be tempted to go that route.

Since I am coming from a TP2, the review would need to be disasterous for me NOT to get it. :D With that said, the battery life issue and a mention of the viewing angles above does concern me. Was it the viewing angles for 3D that was restrictive or all the viewing angles in general?

according to engadget, battery lasted about 15 hours with all the radios on (3g, 4g, and wifi) and twitter notifications on. i know people won't leave 4g radio on when not using it, same with wifi. the battery drained 40% by taking 80 photos (mix of 2d, 3d, and use of flash?) and 4 videos.

that seems like pretty good battery life to me. the camera glass cover & call quality on the other hand bothers me a bit. the general navigation of the phone is buttery smooth.
