[ROM] 9/29 - CleanROM *Developer Edition* - Perfomance and Style!

http://www.scottsroms.com/general/images/CRDE.png

A ROM designed for performance with a touch of class!

You MUST read posts #2 and #3 before flashing! There is important info in those threads!

This is a ROM that is CleanROM based and has a similar feature set but includes some special features that I choose to run on my personal phone such as custom overclocked kernel and a light theme.

Features
  • OS: Gingerbread 2.3.4 Deodexed
  • Kernel: Bcblend 2.6.35.14 v.03 with capacitive light dimming and always on notification led recompiled by mWalt2! SOURCE
  • Clock Speed: 1.62 GHZ with options to go to 1.2GHZ (Factory default) or insane speeds of 1.78GHZ! Warning: Not all devices will run 1.78GHZ so use with caution!
  • Governer: Ondemand via Virtuous Daemon. Do not use SetCPU!
  • Theme: Custom Dev Edition Theme. Transparent Non-Paginated Rosie, Transparent Pulldown, Sprint Lover Icons with Version N Battery, and Custom Font
  • ROM Updater: Included and compatible with all CleanROM Mods
  • Apps: ES File Explorer, DSP Manager, Fast Reboot

How to Flash
  • Download ROM and place on the root of your SD Card
  • Boot into recovery mode
  • Disable Signature Checking!
  • Wipe Data / Factory Reset
  • Flash ROM
  • Reboot and enjoy!

SEPCIAL NOTE FOR HBOOT 1.5 USERS: If you are on hboot 1.5 you must read this!: Scott's ROMS - [Issue!] - Tether not working :(!

Change Log
How to use ROM Updater!
  • You must read the instructions HERE to use ROM Updater!

Notes
  • Some apps such as Visual Voice Mail will display black text on the pulldown making it hard to read. If this is bothersome use the standard pulldown in the ROM Updater.

About Overclocking

About Overclocking

The ROM is set at a default of 1.62GHZ with Ondemand governing. This provided the best match of performance and battery life. After you have flashed the ROM there will be 3 ZIP files labled 1.2GHZ, 1.62GHZ and 1.78GHZ in the CleanROM folder. You can flash these in recovery to easily adjust the CPU frequency. Please note all devices may not be stable at 1.78GHZ.

I dont recommend using any overclocking tool such as SetCPU as the clock is controlled by the Virtuous OC Daemon. Using SetCPU could lead to undesirable affects. Let Virtuous do its thing!

Hey Scott, i am loving the new rom but regardless of kernel, my phone is running a little warm and battery drain is pretty bad compared to cleanrom 2.5. I think I may have to switch back to 2.5 in the mean time.

Depending on usage patterns that makes sense. Before you switch, just remmeber I have anticipated this situation already and placed a file on your SD Card to clock the ROM back down to 1.2GHZ which is where 2.5 is. At that point batter should return to what you are used to and phone will still benefit from enhanced kernel. Just a thought and may save you some time.

Also, a few people have complained of this and we found out it was an app that was not playing nice with the new kernel because they did not do a completely fresh install. Did you do fresh or dirty install? Also, can you post your Uptime vs Awake time? That will also tell us a tale.

Definitely a fresh install(rom and apps), uptime vs awake time was acceptable at an average of about 5 to 1 ratio. The weird thing is after it started getting warm along with excessive battery drain I went ahead and flashed the 1.2 zip and the heat and battery drain remained the same. After that I dirty flashed 2.5 and my phone was perfect again. I will give it one my try tonight and tomorrow and see what happens.

Something else is going on... If you flashed 1.2GHZ zip and it stayed warm... thats not right. I run this thing hard at 1.78 and it only gets warm from time to time. I dont know what it is... I really dont but I can tell you the results you are getting are contrary to what all beta testing and most other user feedback shows. Im stumped. That doesnt happen often :???:

Well I just like quadruple wiped everything and I just reflashed it as well as flashing the 1.2zip. I probably wont even add any apps for a day or two to see how it works out.

Ok, let me know how it goes. I think you will see the ROM itself with no apps is very good on battery at 1.2.

Let me ask you a question, what are the differences between the cleanrom 2.5 kernel and the kernels used in this one?

Yeah, 18 hours at 50% is damn good! Thats about a day and a half on a full charge. lol. Some people would kill to get that level of battery performance! But that's about what I get too.

If I were you I would run at 1.62GHZ. Your not going to notice much more battery drain but will get a nice little bump on performance.

How do you turn on beats audio?

Plug in your headphones and its the last option at the bottom. Says equalizer but you will notice its the beats icon.

I do think this oc'd edition runs smoother than 2.5. Thank you for not updating the hosts file with adblock. I prefer the adblock app that can be turned on / off as it effects several apps (e.g. medscape). Any thoughts on incorporating any of that htc logging disable stuff going on @ xda?

Thx!

guitardoc64 10-03-2011 09:12 AM

Re: [ROM] 9/29 - CleanROM *Developer Edition* - Perfomance and Style!

The logging stuff is already removed in all the CleanROM series.

Is anyone else having an issue w/ wifi forcing itself on?

i turn it off and it just cuts right back on (does the same in the settings menu and from my widget)

the only way it turns off is if i click on the connection and select forget this connection

then i have to retype it everytime i want it back on

Strange, the OC edition is smoother in subtle ways (for the most part). Its certainly faster in pure performance, the benchmarks will show that. Also, it does have Ad blocking hosts. Very strange you are not seeing either of those.

Sprint Hotspot/Wifi Tether/USB Tether--NONE working

Hi Guys, for some reason none of the tethering options are working for me. Everything else about the rom is great! My computer is connecting, but it's showing no Internet access. Any ideas?

I was going to try this cook ROM next week. I got the CleanROM and loving it.

Nice rom. I like this much better than cleanrom. The OC is great. And I really like Fast Reboot - frees up a ton of ram. Keep it coming.

Do you loose some battery life on this? By how much compare to the CleanROM?

Noobish question: can you put instructions on how to use terminal emulator to edit virtuous Oct daemon. I came ffrom Viper rom and the command was su to permit super user then VC to get into daemon setting. Thanks in advance.

I see. So I might as well go with this. Faster speed and no battery drop. Its like eating a slice of cake and then eating the whole 18". Thanks!

guitardoc64 10-28-2011 05:17 PM

Yes, if nothing else, the battery life is a little less than a non-overclocked ROM. I suspect the difference is the screen off underclocking.
