Anyone had any problems with the Droid Eris?

Okay so Im hopefully getting this phone soon, but I want to know if anyone has been experiencing any problems with this phone so I dont wind up returning it 5 times like I have with my dreaded touch pro (that I hate).
And also, Will this phone be getting Android 2.0??

The only problems I've had are some occasional slowdowns (but given the usage I put this thing through, I'll allow it...), and battery isn't the greatest.. (again due to lots of usage and online convergence).

Over all, I'm glad I got a phone with Sense UI.

Re: Anyone had any problems with the Droid Eris?

only problem i had was with a few apps that needed to be "forced" closed. that doesnt necessarily mean its the Eris, it could be the app itself.

I think the only issue I have with it is battery needs to be a little larger.

I can't figure out how to get twitter to turn off sync. I can turn off flicker and facebook but not twitter. The most I can do is set it to every day update.

Re: Anyone had any problems with the Droid Eris?

I've noticed an increase in FORCE CLOSES for apps that originally were working fine. I"m wondering if downloading lot of apps, testing them and removing them has left 'residue' and the phone needs to be cleaned up. Ina windows world, that would require registry cleanup and possible defrag (yes, flash RAM gets fragmented). But in a Android/linus world, I have no idea if this is an issue or not.

your not in a windows world anymore ;)(thank God) if i were you i would go to settings>manage applications and clear the cache and/or data of the apps that are messing up. bear in mind you might lose important data related to the apps in which you clear the caches of

Got a brand new droid eris from verizon. On the first day the messaging icon on the home screen started malfunctioning and sent me to camera. now it is sending me to missed calls list. I guess nothing's perfect.

Re: Anyone had any problems with the Droid Eris?

I've had my ERIS for a few days now. I like it alot. I've been doing quite a bit of reading on it, especially problems others are having. Out of the box, I haven't had any problems or issues so far. Battery seems to hold up good for me. I believe that most of the problems/issues others have is because they get the phone and immediately start installing apps. I haven't installed any apps, yet. I believe that you should use the phone out of the box for atleast a week or so to get a good feel for it. Also, this helps to diagnose any issues later after installing apps. Only drawback for me is Yahoo mail not porting, but hopefully that will get a fix in the future. Luckily I had a gmail account from awhile back.

Yeah man I was just kidding... But seriously, isn't that why we're here, to make our phones faster and more capable?

Installing apps does not make the phone faster or more stable. But just like the TP2, most people started complaining about stability and speed issues because they threw app after app to their phone.

Re: Anyone had any problems with the Droid Eris?

apps do make the phone more capable though. The SMS preview function is a must have for users leaving s2u2 behind. Also the absence of a missed call tone or indicator is a major pain as well. Ringo allows the use of MP3s as ringtones and event sounds. The Dolphin browser is faster than the stock browser. If you don't install an app you are seriously missing out...

I didn't say 'capable'. Missed call indicator is trackball, but I guess that is not good enough for some people. SMS preview sounds interesting enough, but personally if I receive a text chances are I will be replying so I would end up going to SMS messages anyway. Basically it boils down to "Each his own".

-after update 800-1000kbps down.

Re: Anyone had any problems with the Droid Eris?

Any problem you see, I would suggest emailing HTC about it so they can check it out and if they find out if there is something wrong fix it. If its data or connection issue send it to HTC and VZW, as HTC knows there is still a connection issue occurring with the phone(but the more who complain about it the better chance they would bring out more fixes for the device).

Re: Anyone had any problems with the Droid Eris?

Ok, starting to kick myself for not getting the Motorola Droid.
(And too late for me to exchange phones).

Eris is pissing me off from time to time as it's been locking up... most notably after receiving calls. Phone won't do anything at all.

Also ben having more and more issues of the phone hesitating or slowing up. Even with no apps open. I find myself rebooting the phone more than before. Maybe it's an app I have installed that's causing this... (though the only app that runs full-time is the Task Manager), or clutter from way too many installs/uninstalls of demo or crapware apps.

Re: Anyone had any problems with the Droid Eris?

as far as i can tell, i've had my Eris for about 2.5 months and the only problem that i've had is the external speaker (the one for the ringer and speaker) seems to have blown, the sound is distorted now when at higher volumes but i rarely use the speaker other than notifications, messages, and incoming calls so ill hang on to it for a while longer before i trade it in for a new one on warrenty replacement. also i've noticed that even though the battery is small, its battery life is a heck of alot longer than that of previous HTCs, namely the vogue, and the screen is alot better quality, Sense UI is amazing its got more feature than anyone could ever ask for in a phone. I'd have to say that HTC got it right with this one, now hopefully they'll release the android 2.0 updates soon

Re: Anyone had any problems with the Droid Eris?

I'm growing tired of the Eris.
Neat platform, but I find that it's getting slower and slower, laggy, and more and more force closes. (And I haven't installed anything new for quite a while).

Considering a factory reset, installing apps I currently use, and then not touching it.

i dunno why, but i havent noticed and slowdowns or lag. the force closes yes, but im sure that has to due with the 1.6 OS. once we get 2.0 or 2.1 we should be fine as long as the devs keep updating their apps
