Why not just get the HTC Hero which has a slight larger battery? Only thing the Eris has over the Hero is a proximity sensor, otherwise specs and such are pretty much the same.

it's a gift from a relative, i'd rather be able to use it on Sprint than sell it or only use it as wifi dependent. i guess i could try and look for a trade.

Get a Verizon account. Better coverage.

That statement some kind of bait? Sprint has been excellent for both coverage and reliability, not to mention the service plans put verizon to shame. ATT, VZW or Sprint, pick your poison, but don't actually buy into their marketing hype.

i think you're confusing sprint with att :)
sprint won the reliability test by pcworld across the country by a slim margin. verizon followed closely and att failed miserably. there's a reason verizon has better coverage than att... CDMA. same as sprint being better than att, they just dont have the balls to advertise and get sued.

besides, i hear verizon is the most expensive carrier out of all. there's a reason they're only charging 99 for eris and 199 for touch pro2 out of the gates.... they get u in the long run. but thanks to verizon if i decide to get a hero i can get it for 99 now :)

Try using anything other than Verizon in NYC, or in remote areas of NJ and enjoy your dropped calls. Personally that's the ONLY reason I stayed with Verizon... my company couldn't keep calls consistently stable while int he field serving clients, and my techs would start using their VZ phones and charging us back.

Re: Get droid eris on Sprint network?

sprint doesnt have dropped call problems in my 10yrs with them... its cdma just like verizon, the towers are everywhere. it's a US centric network. i travel to rural areas a lot and always have a signal, that's why i stick with cdma. i even get a signal on a ski slope when my friends get no bars. try that on gsm and no dice.

if you tried sprint in those areas and they had problems, that's really weird... you'd think those areas would have no problem with any carrier.

Re: Get droid eris on Sprint network?

Anyone have a answer to this question? I to would like to know if it can be unlocked to be used on sprints network. My mother-in-law has a $600 credit with verizon and can get this for me as a gift, but im on sprint and don't really want to switch to verizon and i can't afford the hero right now....any information would be greatly appreciated, thanks.

EDIT: Also I know sprint uses picture mail and what not, if the phone can be unlocked onto sprint will it be able to use picture mail and other functions? or does unlocking it to another network makes some of the applications not usable? If so, what would that be ?

Re: Get droid eris on Sprint network?

I have been researching getting the Moto Droid to work on Sprint. The short answer? While they are CDMA devices Sprint will not activate them for usage on their towers. The ESN numbers do not fall within Sprints range and they will catch this when you call to activate the phone.

I am sure there is a more complex answer than this but from my research it is not possible to do this big read phone on the yellow network.

I have the same question? Let me restate it can you unlock or jailbreak the Moto Droid and use it on sprint? I have been a customer with sprint for over 11 years no problems. You pick whichever floats your boat, but is it possible to unlock this phone or jailbreak it? Thank you in advance for real help!!!!!!!!!!!!

Re: Get droid eris on Sprint network?

I have the eris with verizon and love it, but I have also heard great things about sprint's hero. I think sprint has the best costumer service, but they have noooooo strength in my area. I tried to switch and had to switch back to verizon due to dropped calls and no signal. I live in South Carolina. It is frustrating, though, because sprint does have much better rates and customer service. Good Luck!!

Re: Get droid eris on Sprint network?

Here, from an employee (me): Sprint will NEVER activate a phone that doesn't have a Sprint logo on it. Simple, end of story. Trust me, I wish I could get around it on a few phones, but it's not happening.

As for coverage, especially in NYC: I've been with Sprint for a loooong time, and I worked in NYC for the majority of that time. I've had about 5 dropped calls total in about 10 years that were due to MY phone. And no, I'm not using the phone for about 100 minutes per month, there were times I was using 4000+ minutes per month for work.

question since the eris and hero are just same phone different shell basically could you put the hero rom on or wouldnt that make a difference cause of the esn?

The answer is no. Sprint doesn't allow non-sprint devices on their network. They won't add the ESN to their database. You have a better chance of getting it to run on Cricket/Metro PCS, than using it on Sprint.

lets pretend that the esn doesnt matter. Then can it be made to work with sprint?

answer is most likely yes. you will find more help on the step in question on

Re: Get droid eris on Sprint network?

You'd be best to sell your Eris and find a good deal on a Hero.

Hero actually also only has 65k color screen, and Eris has 262k or so.

The proximity sensor is a joke. It's a light sensor, next to the earpiece. Not a true proximity sensor.

And the capacitive buttons are awful. I WISH I could put a Hero on Verizon, because I'd kill for physical buttons. The capacitive ones, you're not sure if you hit them, especially if there's lag, and they're harder to accurately hit.

Outside that, Sprint, nor Verizon are both companies that will almost NEVER allow a non-Sprint or non-Verizon phone to be on them. The Eris would be VERY hard pressed to be on sprint. You'd have to make the MEID look like a Sprint phone's. Good luck with that.

Holy hell... OK, one more time, for those who didn't pay attention before, and this time I'll put it in big letters for you:

Sprint will NOT activate ANY device that does not have the SPRINT LOGO on it. If it did not COME FROM SPRINT, Sprint will NOT ACTIVATE IT.

You want to change your ESN to get it on the network? It's a FEDERAL OFFENSE, and yes, they do consider it serious enough to actively go after you. Oh, yeah, and it STILL WON'T WORK. Any idea why? Oh, yeah, BECAUSE IT'S NOT A SPRINT PHONE.

Sorry about the overload of capslock, folks, but I can't stress this enough here.

If you want me to spell out why, I'll be glad to, but let's stop beating this dead horse already.

If a ESN has been on the cricket network how do you get it back into the Sprint database. And it was an originally a sprint phone

If the true ESN on the phone is clean, just activate it with sprint, I would think...assuming the phone is properly setup to use the sprint network...

Haha. Agreed. But seriously, have you all forgot the talk of the town circa 2006/2007??? Sprint mutually roams on verizon and even is allowed TV, movies, and streaming on VERIZON's 1xrtt where verizon customers are NOT! If you have sprint in NYC, and the towers are being shitty, the phone seamlessly pops on verizon towers. You can even LOCK some phones to verizon towers. Combined with the alltell agreement, sprint TECHNICALLY has the largest coverage area.

mmm... backed up with facts like a good little nerf herder: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sprint_...ing_agreements

Wow.. dude.. Get a girlfriend or something. While changing esn might be "frowned upon" or even terminated service.. It's only a federal crime if doing so is with the intention of cloning a phone to steal service. that's the way the law is written. No one is hurt, nor cheated, so it's not imorral. service isnt' being stolen. What's wrong with you? why do you act angry and take it personal?

It's not a sprint phone? are sprint phones magic? no they are not. are tehy both cdma? yes they are. Will sprint and verizon phones work on each others networks? YES THEY WILL and people do it. please stop speaking out of your buttox.

While the first sentence was just gasoline on flames [-X I do agree with the rest of it. If you want to say stuff like this entropism then you have to back it with facts.

Try changing the PRL to a Boost PRL?

obonilla30 09-28-2010 01:16 AM

Re: Get droid eris on Sprint network?

Changed the PRL but no go. Is really weird. As if you actuall had to change the rom. please correct me if I am wrong. I was experimenting with a tp2 from USC. and is the same thing despite that all the information is change it will not even have the greeting for anyother carrier. What I did was I used an energy rom and loaded the sprint provisioning however is not even giving the Sprint greeting. I am not trying to connect this phone to sprint or even clone it. I dont do that stuff. I am simply trying to understand a little bit more cell phones. I was ready to have this TP2 bricked but nothing happened. please advice on what I am missing here. ESN will not be added since phone screen is broken and I simply refuse to have it fixed. If someone wants it I can send it or pick it up once if you are in Chicago. is a U.S. cellular phone.
