I want to increase the letter limit for SMS
 

130 letters are too little of a message for me. I had an edit on my treo 800w that would allow me to change the text limit from 160 letters to 1600!! I want to do the same thing with my Touch Diamond but I cant find anything that will lead me to it. Please help asap! Thanks to anyone in advance.

well, its a easy regedit....
cource, it won't make much of a diffrence as the carrier cuts the messages where they want....
And srry to tell you buddy, they did that on your old phone too

But if it makes you happy to see it say 1600

Edit:
HKCU\Software\Microsoft\SMS\TextShared
"IS637MaxAsciiCharacters" to a decimal value of "1600"

just delete it. it will take the lag away from txting also which is a big plus!!!!!!!

delete both "count"s in compose_sms.htm and the one "count" in thread_sms.htm in /windows

just to let you know. if you edit the count over 160. it will not matter anyways. this has something to do with carriers or the network.

If you want it easy search for sms160.cab. It floats around a lot.

Not that I was writing 1600 letter text messages I just dont want a limit on how long my message is. I KNOW that they networks limit how long the message RECEIVED. Ex: If I were to actually write a 1600 letter text message, it wont cut me off at 160, forcing me to start another message.

oh when i was talking about deleteing it. that was the windows mobile on like a htc touch pro,pro2, diamond, diamond2, i dont think this will work on a treo pro.

Transmission of short messages between the SMSC and the handset is done whenever using the Mobile Application Part (MAP) of the SS7 protocol. Messages are sent with the MAP mo- and mt-ForwardSM operations, whose payload length is limited by the constraints of the signaling protocol to precisely 140 octets (140 octets = 140 * 8 bits = 1120 bits). Short messages can be encoded using a variety of alphabets: the default GSM 7-bit alphabet (see GSM 03.38 for details), the 8-bit data alphabet, and the 16-bit UTF-16 alphabet.[27] Depending on which alphabet the subscriber has configured in the handset, this leads to the maximum individual Short Message sizes of 160 7-bit characters, 140 8-bit characters, or 70 16-bit characters (including spaces). I dont get it th message just keeps going past 130 on my phone and it keeps going try threaded setting maybe?
