Re: BT GPS recommendation

Why don't you want to use the internal GPS?

inferno1 08-18-2009 02:42 PM

Re: BT GPS recommendation

10% of the time it locks in less then 10 seconds
40% of the time it locks in about 5 minutes
50% of the time it takes more then 10-15minutes

not very reliable

I would rather pay someone from the forum if they cant get it working more reliably....
but all the recommendations ive read on here havent worked

thanx

Re: BT GPS recommendation

Can't you set up AGPS?

inferno1 08-18-2009 03:31 PM

Re: BT GPS recommendation

if your referring to running quick gps... it doesnt help

Re: BT GPS recommendation

No, AGPS. There is a sticky on it. Also make sure you aren't running the 1.12 radio from the new Alltel ROM.

i assume you are referring to the sticky on " How To: Configure GPS"

i tried that already with no luck

i have tried a couple radios, current im back on the new alltel radio

is there certain radio that works best?
i also have tried a few of the Cabs in the first post for carrier settings... maybe there is a certain carrier setting/radio combination that will work????

when i open a gps program that maps the sats... it will show up to 9 sats in view with there strengths, but still take 10minutes or more to lock.... kinda frustrating....
thats what i dont get, in order to have the sats in view it must be recieving data from them, so why does it take so long to lock?

what else is strange is that when i was in poland on business, my gps worked great, even indoors
when i stopped for a layover in DC, it worked pretty well
but back in florida, it stinks

BTW thanx for you help and time

Re: BT GPS recommendation

Hmm. Try going to the 1.11F radio from Sprint then set up AGPS through QPST for Alltel.

Re: BT GPS recommendation

ill give it a try later today
thanx again

Re: BT GPS recommendation

so heres what i did..
-loaded the latest alltel rom and radio
-flashed the sprint 1.11 radio
(now followed the directions from the sticky)
got my SPC
when adding a new port (step 7), it doesnt show my phone as WinCE(######)
it shows it as SURF7500A (not sure if thats an issue)
and the number listed as the esn at the top of the window (step 13 picture) is not the same as whats on the back of the phone
so just in case i got the SPC from that number as well
when i tried to "read from phone" and entered my SPC, it wouldnt take it, either of them
but it does take "000000" so i went with that
i entered the GPS one settings for alltel

clicked write to phone

waited a bit the soft reset

then loaded gmaps

then ran quick gps

now im going out side to see what happens.....

(btw do i need to run the "GPS Settings - Alltel" cab at the top of the stickey???

Re: BT GPS recommendation

Did you make sure all the little checkmarks were all dark and not just gray?

inferno1 08-20-2009 11:03 AM

Re: BT GPS recommendation

i assume you are referring to the boxes on the gpsone tab?
i just checked/tried again and they were gray (which i thought would be the same)
so i unchecked them and rechecked them to black, then loaded the alltel settings again.
i will give it another try...
(fyi, i am now on TruXt's ROM, if it matters)

thanx
again

Re: BT GPS recommendation

so i went outside and tried gmaps, didnt get a lock after 2min, so i decided to try running the quick gps program (even though it said my data was only 8 hrs old)
then i reopened gmaps and got 7 sats in less then 30sec... :)
now i just wonder if it was chance or did it work...
ill try it out over the next few days, if it keep working ill send something your way if you want (or to a Chef of your choice) for your help

also we should have the GPS sticky edited if the check marks need to be black (if it works)

Re: BT GPS recommendation

Re: BT GPS recommendation

You said you weren't on the 1.12 radio so IDK. Maybe go back to the shipped ROM then try like MightyROM? That's what I use and it works fine.

Re: BT GPS recommendation

are you on MR4 or MR6?

MrObvious 08-21-2009 12:40 PM

Re: BT GPS recommendation

Six. Snap I need to change my profile.

inferno1 08-21-2009 09:47 PM

Re: BT GPS recommendation

i appreciate your help, but i dont think its going to work....

i flashed to stock, then changed the radio, then flashed to MR6, ran the QPST (the gpsone settings were already correct when i checked) and stil no gps lock after about 4-5 minutes....

guess i will be buying me a BT receiver

MrObvious 08-22-2009 09:20 AM

Re: BT GPS recommendation

God there must be something.

inferno1 08-22-2009 09:58 AM

Re: BT GPS recommendation

it would bother me as much if it didnt work at all....
but it gets 9 or so sats in view.... but just cant seem to lock on them ..

this stinks....

MrObvious 08-23-2009 10:06 AM

Re: BT GPS recommendation

When you start up say Google Maps, let it preload the area you are at when you get a GPS lock then disconnect and exit Google Maps. Reload Google Maps and does it try to connect to the EVDO when it is seeking satellites at first?
