Who's staying with their Diamond?
So, Diamond2 and Pro2 are out... and there are whole bunch of new devices such as the iPhone 3GS, Palm Pre, HTC Hero, and other new devices that are available now.
But who is staying with their Diamond for another year? I've looked at most of the new devices (including the Pro2), and I've decided to stay another year with my Diamond. It still feels very snappy, and it has more functionality than most of the devices out today thanks to new ROMs that are getting pushed out constantly. What do you guys think? |
Re: Who's staying with their Diamond?
I will stay with my Diamond for some time now, but I regret I didn't wait so I could save money for the Touch Pro.
|
Re: Who's staying with their Diamond?
im staying with my diamond as well until a new phone really blows me away. I figure as of right now the VGA devices are still constantly pushing out new roms and programs, not really worth it to change over because these are sitll getting support. I know some of the new phones out are still going to be running wm6.1, definatly not worth upgrading for another 6.1. When WM7 comes out that's when ill upgrade because most likely it will be extremely hard with a lack of functionality when trying port 7 over to our devices. Pointless to try and upgrade a phone just to get wm6.5, we already have that.

Re: Who's staying with their Diamond?
I'm staying. Loving my Diamond. By the time it breaks down, they'll probably be replacing it with a newer model. I do love that Sprint T.E.P.
|
Re: Who's staying with their Diamond?
I will stay with my Diamond once I get the HTC TP2. I want to start doing kitchen work, so I will need a phone to start testing on.
|
Re: Who's staying with their Diamond?
Yeah, I think I'm staying untill I see something like the Touch HD here in the US... AKA Whitestone or something very close to it...
|
Re: Who's staying with their Diamond?
I'm staying with whatever Sprint has that works with the SERO plan. Can't beat the free data and tethering plus 500 mins for $30. I'll never go to something like the Pre or iPhone as long as I can keep this plan.
|
Re: Who's staying with their Diamond?
The only thing I wish my diamond had was a larger screen, but its not worth upgrading into a new contract just for a little larger screen. If I can get the Hero on Sero, I might go for it but otherwise I'm waiting on winmo 7 before upgrading.

Re: Who's staying with their Diamond?
I'm going to hold on to my Diamond for now too, unless I get a smokin' deal on a gently used TP. I figure between snapdragon/tigra cpus and wm7, I have a lot to wait for in the next 15 months until my contract is up. I'm also waiting for Telus to fully launch their HSDPA network next spring and LTE beyond that.

Re: Who's staying with their Diamond?
when the pro2 hits sprint im blowing it on this diamond. never really cared for the design and screen size. really missed my touch( had promised to my girl when i got the diamond) the support for it has been exceptional and kept it tolerable.
|
Re: Who's staying with their Diamond?
I'm ready for a "better" Diamond. So I'm defenitely going to play with the TP2 - which I'm getting for my spouse, but I'm looking forward to the Diamond2 / Topaz / Whitestone. Can't hardly wait... But I have to.

Re: Who's staying with their Diamond?
when windows mobile 7 hits, and the sick new processors that are coming out soon as well, there could be some really nice dangerous phones coming out within the next 18 months. cant wait. im really looking for a larger screen with a much smaller body in thickness...look how thin the new iphones are with much bigger screens and us diamonds are still pretty thick, dont understand it. For all you Sprint lovers they already rolled out the newest 4g and some markets so it shoudl be comming to a market new you soon, can't wait for a phone to support that as well, if it even needs any support from the phone.

Re: Who's staying with their Diamond?
I will be staying with my Diamond for now.
Still tweaking :) Always something new to download. The size is perfect for my pocket. The "wanting the newest device out" is wearing off for me once I met my Diamond :) The Diamond is still a pretty cool device. If the Diamond2 comes out, I will have a look, but it will most likely be very similar to the Diamond so I may not want to spend the $$$$$$ |

Free swap after year, doubt that is official policy. You can get lucky. Never had much luck in sprint stores for anything.

Re: Who's staying with their Diamond?
I don't think there is any REVOLUTIONARY developments in smartphone technology in the market right now. Most smartphones can do the same web browsing, email sync, media playback, etc... Snapdragon chipset and Nvidia Tegra chip are examples of evolutionary development that will improve the quality of experience on the phone, but they aren't widely available yet (other than snapdragon on TG01). Diamond is more than capable for today's smartphone duties, imho.
I just hope next year there will be a phone with 2Ghz snapdragon 2 + nvidia tegra + dual boot Android and WinMo... Everyone on this board would buy that! |

I really wanted to get the TP2 when it finally came out until I downloaded the Mighty Rom4 for my Diamond. Its the fastest most stable ROM ive ever used and it feels like I have a brand new phone! The hardware (and software) of some of these new HTC phones coming out isnt really all that much different than the diamond at this point. Sure the big high res screens and 3.5mm jacks are nice, but I really love the size of the diamond, i hate having a brick in my pocket. The diamond would be the perfect if it accepted microSD. Hail Diamonders! :headbang: |
Re: Who's staying with their Diamond?
I wouldn't mind a bigger screen but the thinness of the Diamond is so nice. I saw a comparison between the Touch Pro 2 and the Diamond as far as thickness and it is the same IIRC.

Re: Who's staying with their Diamond?
If i could get the Hero and stay on my none contract sero plan... im out !! LoL
Been wanting to try android for sometime now, was gonna switch to T-Mobile but heard the MT3G is a G1 with a facelift :'( |
Re: Who's staying with their Diamond?
I would try the Hero if it comes to Sprint, as long as Sprint doesn't make you switch to one of those new not so good plans compared to the plan I have.
I think you had to switch to one of these plans if you wanted the Pre. It has been awhile but I think if you are already an existing customer, then you are able to keep your present plan. Certain plan restrictions with certain devices may apply to new customers only. Someone else may have more definite info regarding this. |
Re: Who's staying with their Diamond?
I think in the very near future. Sero will be completly left in the dark. The first sign of this is when the tp2 and Hero come out. If and only if that is put on Simply everything, I think sero days will be over. I just switched myself from sero to get the pre and really I am not paying anymore then I was with my sero because of my discounts and now I have sprint navigation which is a $10.00 value.
I got a $70.00 renewal credit just because I left sero. The women in retentions gave it to me. I also got my pre for $30.00 |
Re: Who's staying with their Diamond?
Compared to the older plans like I have, (Friends & Family) if Iswtitched to the Simply Everything plan, I would be paying hundreds of dollars more per year.
I have 2000 A/T minutes with an additional line. Night/Weekends starting at 5pm plus alot of other stuff. All for $99 before discount. Even if a newer plan is $60 more per month, that is $720 per year more which is $1440 more over a 2 year contract. In addition, with some of the newer plans, you don't get all of the features that you can get with some of the older plans. My brother has one of the original Sero plans, 1000 minutes for $50/mo. Including data, roaming, etc. |
Re: Who's staying with their Diamond?
im def staying with the diamond unless the diamond2 drops this fall..but im also a sero user. so this plan will kinda keep me locked in the diamond for awhile..plus i need a phone that can tether..as its my only net connection out here in the country...
|
Re: Who's staying with their Diamond?
unless the Whitestone or similar appears available on SERO, I'll stick with the Diamond... I like it quite a bit...
|
Re: Who's staying with their Diamond?
well, it depends.
I have some questions about Sprints TEP. If i sign up for the plan, and my diamond has problems, how easy is it to get it fixed/ replaced. whats the chances of them trying to fix it vs replacing it (say for example for a button which is giving me problems) Also, if my diamond is giving me problems, can i only switch to another diamond or am i able to switch to another phone like the touch pro lastly but not least, if the diamond2/touch pro2 come out, how much after it comes out do you guys think we can get a diamond2 for a problem with the origional diamond? (like i give them my diamond which has a keypad problem, and they hand me a diamond2) |

When the Diamonds first came out, you were most likely to receive a New Diamond as a replacement because there were not many refurbed ones available yet. Now there are tons of refurbed Diamonds available so you will most likely receive one of those. Depending on what the issue is, Sprint is unlikely to repair it. Quicker to replace it. Sprint will also honor the HTC 1 year warranty by replacing the Diamond in house, instead of you having to send your Diamond directly to HTC. At least that has been my experience. Getting your Diamond replaced with a Diamond2 will only happen if there are no Diamonds available. I have a feeling that there are enough Diamonds to last at least a year, and likely longer, so getting a Diamond2 as a replacement ain't going to happen for awhile. And there you have it. |
Re: Who's staying with their Diamond?
I will stick with my Diamond for a while as well.
|
Re: Who's staying with their Diamond?
but say for example you tell them you keep having problems with the diamond ( and are fed up with it), do you think they will give you the touch pro,or the diamond 2 if it is available

Re: Who's staying with their Diamond?
I am sorry if this question is answered on another thread but but, time is running out on my 30 day exchange with Verizon.
I recently (28 days or so) switched from the Touch (VX6900) to the Touch Pro. My only complaint is the size compared to the 6900. I don't use the slide out keyboard that much so I am thinking of switching to the Touch Diamond. Verizon's Diamond has less RAM than their Touch Pro but more than the 6900. My 6900 was pretty tweaked out and ran fine, probably faster than this OEM Touch Pro. Am I going to really notice the difference with the Diamond? I use a storage card and install most programs on it to keep the device as free as possible. Again sorry to post such a rudimentary question but I am buying the phone sight unseen as the stores are largely out of them and I am buying online. |

+1 The only phone I will get to upgrade my diamond to is the diamond2, unless the firestone comes out for sprint any time near soon (which is doubtful). Id much rather have my diamond over a touchpro2 to be honest. |
Re: Who's staying with their Diamond?
for me, I plan on switching from my diamond to a touch pro 2, because the keyboard is similar to the moguls (which i loved and the TP i hate!). I hardly use the keyboard, but since my phone is for work and i have to write long emails, the keyboard is much quicker than my on screen typing ability...
