Sprint Diamond (battery): How many hours of talk time do you get?

Since I purchased my new Diamond two weeks ago, I've read every Diamond battery thread on sprintusers, most on here, and and many threads on xda. I have also done quite a bit to help my Diamond's battery life. However, I still only get about 1.5-2 hours talk time even if I do not use the phone for anything else. :-({|=

Here's everything I have turned off:
wifi, gps, bluetooth, beam, auto back light sensor, data, push email, voice command, weather updates.

Here is what else I have tried:
lowered the backlight. I keep it off most of the time.
used the power saving settings on the Diamond Tweaks cab.
Flashed to a new radio 1.11 (from 1.00)
Done reg edits to reduce battery polling frequency.
Made sure Opera actually exits.
Kill Opera and any other nonessentials on startup using dotFred's task manager.
Tried Sprint Only, Hybrid, forced roaming, and 1X even to no avail.
changed ACCOLC to be 8.
changed the Slot Cycle Index (SCI) to 2.
Underclocked with nuechem's program.

However, with little use besides talking, I still can't get more than an hour and a half or so talking on it.

I have not flashed to a custom Rom like Mighty yet (which I know someone will recommend) but I did take it in to a Sprint Repair Store. They basically just hard reset it & told me a third party application(2) that is draining my battery. One guy there thought was Slide 2 Unlock. I had many cabs, games, apps on the phone but rarely used them (s2u2 and changescreen were the only ones always running.)

Even though the phone is back to factory settings, I'm still having poor battery performance. I wonder if it is the phone or battery or both and if I get a new phone and/or battery if I will have the same problem.

What I really want to know is:

How many hours of talk time do you get on your Diamond?

Re: Sprint Diamond (battery): How many hours of talk time do you get?

Also, if you don't talk much, I would think that intense data/cpu usage (texting, pic mail, web browsing, music, games, etc...) would be the equivalent of talking.

So feel free to answer the question that way too.

Yeah battery life for talk time is pretty bad. The custom roms do help a bit tho especially mighty roms. It seems to help with the drain when not using the phone a lot. If u text or talk on the phone a lot its good to have the signal switched to 1x instead of high speed where it switches back and forth. That seems to help too.

Yeah, I've tried the 1x as well as everything I listed in the first post. Even though I use the Diamond, I tried many of the ideas in kabuk1's sig link:
http://forum.ppcgeeks.com/showthread.php?t=75145&page=3

So is it safe to say those who answered 5+ hours in the poll are using a custom Rom which is the main reason for doubling the typical battery's talk time?

About how long will your battery last with little to no talk time?

I don't talk on my phone much but with moderate texting and web browsing I get an easy 2 days out of my battery. That is with email off, beam off, wifi off, bluetooth off, but weather updates every 90 minutes.
I'm also running Winmo 6.5.

Hard to say because it is hard to use my phone without talking! :)

I would guesstimate that I probably get around at least 12 hours standby time with very light use (couple texts, less than 10 minutes of calls).

Overall though, it almost seems that 1 minute of call time equals roughly 1% of battery life for me. A one hour call kills about half my battery.

Re: Sprint Diamond (battery): How many hours of talk time do you get?

Wow, so as of this posting, 17 people get less than the official amount of talk time listed on HTC's site:

Talk time: Up to 250 minutes (4.16 hours)
http://www.htc.com/us/product/touchd...ification.html

And only two people get more.

Fyi, Standby time is listed as: Up to 350 hours

Thanks to those who replied to this poll. It helps to know that most Diamond users only get less than 3 hours talk time.

I wish I could get more on mine (I even got a new battery) but I guess unless I switch to a custom ROM, I'll just have to accept the talk time/battery life.

I love the phone otherwise.

Why the reluctance to try a custom rom? Battery life is not the only thing you'll gain... go ahead and try some...

I'm sure it is cool to have a custom rom. I'm not so sure how much talk time will increase. Standby might, but based on this poll it seems that most people (about 75%) don't get more than 3 hours talk time.

custom roms make it better, plus you'll get so good at flashing, you will be able to swap them out during commercials. :)

Yeah custom ROMs are so much better than stock. MightyROM has me so spoiled. :D

for some reason though, not even getting through the day just doesn't sit well, maybe it's just my area though but still

Custom roms are "better" in what ways?

Do they only add standby battery life or actual HOURS of talk time?

MrObvious 08-13-2009 11:37 AM

Re: Sprint Diamond (battery): How many hours of talk time do you get?

Probably both. But overall they make the Diamond better.

Re: Sprint Diamond (battery): How many hours of talk time do you get?

I just got the phone but thanks to one of MrObvious Treats I tried the drain battery and it helps, but also I still say it lies to you when it goes down fast as the first day I tried to drain, this phone just would not die like I thought it would. And you do need to do the reg-edit as, Juicy stated, the PollIntervals to 20000 from 5000 and while we are on this what do you think of changing it to 25000 would that help? Someone did it to the touch pro and it helped a lot anyone ever try it on a Diamond?

But the main thing I noticed is with the reg-edit done and re training my battery I get better then what it was. Not sure what it is yet but will know after I go to work this weekend since I will not have a way to charge the phone till I get back home and it will be getting used more. Also we got a Mogel here and when I got the Diamond they said they use the same chargers, I say don’t do it, Mogel charger makes my phone really hot so dose letting the pc charge it plus pc takes forever the diamond wall charger keeps my phone nice and cool wile charging it full in about 1 1/2 hours.

Re: Sprint Diamond (battery): How many hours of talk time do you get?

Changing the battery polling didn't seem to help me with talk time. It just notified me suddenly that my battery was running low while I was on a call and then turned off the phone. I recommend you trying the poll changing out for yourself to see if it works. Some people have claimed to have success with it. It doesn't hurt to change it because you can always change it back.

My phone/battery still acts weird sometimes. Yesterday my phone said the battery was dying (had one bar left in red) so I turned the phone off for a few hours since I knew I'd need it later. When I turned it back on, it had half the bars back all green and it is still that way now - a day later. Granted that is standby time and I'm sure if I was talking on it the battery would die asap.

I wish I could get a definite answer from someone using a custom rom on how many total hours of talk time they get.

It seems from my poll that most people only get around 3 whether they are on a custom rom or not.

Re: Sprint Diamond (battery): How many hours of talk time do you get?

The only way to really know talk time is to fully charge and then only use the phone to talk..who buys a ppc and does that? I'm not trying to be funny, but I prob use my phone as a "device" first and "phone" second. So to give the best answer that I can I would say this; Overall a custom ROM gives me better battery life than stock. VERY noticeable difference. Some ROMs better than others. I currently use Mighty ROM 3.9, a little old, but best battery life for me. So even if your "talk time" is the same stock or custom, custom is the way to go because everything else will be better, faster, and overall better battery life.

Re: Sprint Diamond (battery): How many hours of talk time do you get?

Well, I checked mine on a Sunday morning by calling my land line and leaving it connected until it died. I got just under 3 hours of talk time. Another time in a 4 hour period, I logged all my calls and got under 2 hours of talk time without using the phone for anything else.

Maybe I'm the weirdo here but a phone is for talking first and other stuff second.

Dont' get me wrong, I love the Diamond for all of its features and use them. Best phone out there because of its size. However, it is still a cell phone and I wish it could function as one for more hours of talk time.

As for ROMS, it seems as though I'll get more overall time (aka standby) but not necessarily more talk time.

Re: Sprint Diamond (battery): How many hours of talk time do you get?

Have you tried any other radios? Which one are you using? I will try the same call test you did by calling my land line. I'll do this Thursday night. I'm running a custom ROM so hopefully we can get a solid answer. I'll prob do it late night and post my results on Friday.

Re: Sprint Diamond (battery): How many hours of talk time do you get?

Yes, I flashed from the Sprint 1.00 to the newer Sprint radio 1.11.

Doing the ##debug# check I don't seem to have that much of a better signal.

Under 1x, I had rx power -102 dbm rx ec/io 22db on the stock 1.00 radio.

Now with the 1.11 radio, I have rx power: ranging from -97 dbm to -105 dbm and rx ec/io 12 db to 38db.
(closer to zero is better)

Perhaps the battery life is a bit better but not much in talk time.

Re: Sprint Diamond (battery): How many hours of talk time do you get?

I think a lot has to do with the coverage in your area. Sprint has got so bad that I just got the diamond hoping to even make a call that I could hear all the words. But since I got my diamond my old palm has only been charged ones and wile I was using it as a phone I would need to charge everyday or in the morning it be dead. Also since I flashed, I can now force it into roaming wile in my house and I would almost say in standy it be a few days before it would need to be charged and if my battery gets low I switch it to roam only and it is good till I go to bed also change it to 1x only. So try 1x and roaming and see if that helps any. I can talk more and use the web and other stuff just as well and I don’t need to plug it in till I go to bed.

Re: Sprint Diamond (battery): How many hours of talk time do you get?

As I mentioned on the first post of this thread, I've tried forced roaming and 1x. Thanks for the suggestion though. I've come to just accept that the Diamond cannot really get more than 3 hours talk time even if flashed to a custom rom due to what about 70% of responses to this poll report.

I tried running my own call test, but my portable phone kept dying around 2 hrs, lol..

hey thanks for trying. so you get at least 2 hours of talk time and probably more.

Re: Sprint Diamond (battery): How many hours of talk time do you get?

Another trick I've been doing to get more battery time is when it starts dying and goes to airplane mode, I shut the phone off for a few minutes. When I turn it on, I get 2 more bars of battery life. I repeat this process a few times and the phone lasts longer.
