Question for Telus Users
I just moved into a new home and its located at top of Coquitlam, Vancouver. The area leading to my street has great reception but once i get in front of my house, and generally my street, I barely get ANY reception at all. Mostly dropped calls and I cant even hear the other people on the line. Inside the house is obviously absolutely no reception. This is a middle to upper class area behind a golf course and populated.
Now i know in the contract it says that Telus is not responsible for indoor reception but what about outside my house? I think its pathetic that i have to drive a block to use my phone! Any advice in trying to cancel my contract without a termination fee? I called and the "polite" rep said they cant do anything about it, but he gave me a roaming update number but that updated and still didnt improve the reception. Now im planning on calling back.. need some advice about how i should handle the situation. I know that they will deny responsibility and I know its nearly impossible to get out of a contract with telus without getting hurt. Im a student and cant afford the $480 cancellation fee. Oh and ive tried to get rid of my contract on craigslists, asked friends, etc... but no luck.. even giving my diamond away for free with a student $50 plan which is probably the best unlimited data + fave 10 voice plan out there. No luck at all .. (all the trendys are busy buying the iphone 3gs) so a transfer is not really an option. Thanks in advance |
Re: Question for Telus Users
i had the same issue here in winnipeg and I was just persistant with them and they let me out of my contract, as they were not providing the service which I was paying for. You just spoke to the wrong customer rep is all..try again and again until you get the answer you want.
good luck |

Re: Question for Telus Users
Is there any chance that someone in your area has a cell phone jammer? I.e., do phones from all other carriers (particularly CDMA carriers) also get poor reception on your street?
This probably isn't the case, but if you live near a school, theater, or similar place, you may want to investigate. BTW, cell phone jammers are illegal in Canada, and if you call the CRTC, they should be able to locate the device and charge the user. |
Re: Question for Telus Users
Thanks for the help, i called them and looks like they already knew the area had poor reception. so now telus offered me an insane plan.. i took it for now saying that id try to get someone to take it over which is very likely since its such a great deal:
450 day time minutes unlimited texting - free caller id - free voice mail - free 10 fave (talk and text unlimited to your favorite 10 people at anytime) Unlimited talk after 6pm Unlimited talk on weekends Unlimited Data No transfer fee Free number change Plan = $50 Im gona craigslist it and see if anyone is interested, if not, ill call them back and get a cancellation without termination fee. |
