Save some Storage Memory!!

Not sure if this has ever been mentioned or posted, but i just found that if you

1. Completely remove the "Touch Mobile Guide" folder, (which I personally have never used) from your windows directory.

2. Move the "RINGS" folder to your internal storage, yes you will still be able to use them for your ringtones as long as you move them to the internal storage directory and not inside another folder in the internal storage.

*Note* You will need a program like Resco explorer or Touch commander to accomplish this but these steps should save you almost 20MB of space.

Hope someone out there can use this!!

You can't move files that were cooked into the ROM. If you've added ringtones or they are installed during customization after the flash, then you can move those for sure.

Another way to save space it so use a program to compress some of your .exe's on the phone using Squeezer. It does not work for all apps, but I've had good luck with most (again, not ones that are cooked in...only cab's that I've installed). As an example, Garmin's Que.exe is ~5mb uncompressed and ~2mb compressed and it works fine while saving me 3 mb of storage.

Yep, thats one of the first things suggested to do. Also use a reg edit or sktools and move your message store to the storage card (this is all your text, picmail, and email not just your attachments.... saves tons) Additionally point your browser cache to the storage card as well as your temp folder.

I am using resco explorer 2008 with the sprint OEM ROM and I am able to move the two folders i mentioned earlier just fine...

In my device/my documents/UAContents/MMS Log & MMS UA I have about 6-7Mb's being used. Its a bunch of .log & .dat files. Can this be deleted or moved to my storage card? Is there a reg edit for this? Is this stuff from Arcsoft I have installed? Also in my device/my documents there is a file not in a folder called WM_9ACF.tmp. I searched it and googled it but found nothing. Its 2.61MB's. Anyone know what it is or if I can toss it?

This should help a lot of people out, looks like Juicy already incorporated the changes in Juicy 8.

You're right. Maybe it's just the OS and program files that are cooked into the ROM that can't be moved. I've always thought Read Only Memory meant it could only be read :). One more thing to remember if you move your rings to internal storage and connect to a computer as a disk drive, your phone won't ring while connected since the phone will not be able to access the internal storage (or so I've read anyway).

I have in my windows folder a Googlemaps_3.0.1.5.cab that I cannot remove even with Total Commander. It takes up 1.9M & I already have cab on storage card.

Re: Save some Storage Memory!!

I am experiencing the following problem accessing Device Windows folders in File Explorer:
1) I was browsing through Device windows folders yesterday without a problem.
I exited.
2) I went back into File Explorer to view the folders again but all I got was the color wheel spinning. The heading said File Explorer/Windows but the page was blank except for the color wheel.
3) I would hit the home button to exit File Explorer.
4) My Diamond slowed up and would freeze, etc.
5) I would soft reset and the freezing would stop but when I would click on File Explorer, the Windows heading would appear with a blank screen and a repeat of the above would happen. I tried multiple soft resets.
6) After a few minutes though, I would click on File Explorer, the Device/Windows heading was there and so were the folders BUT when I would exit Windows and come back to Windows, the same issues would repeat themselves. This has happened at least 8 times.
Any suggestions on how to resolve this issue?

At least I am able to get into File Explorer after a period of time but I am unable to get into Device Windows after exiting it and then it takes awhile to get my Diamond back to normal.

Running stock 2.00 ROM

UPDATE:
I cannot get into File Explorer for 45 minutes.
When I click on File Explorer, the Device Windows screen appears with the color wheel and I have to go thru the whole soft reset process due to freezing etc.
Its getting to where I don't click on File Explorer because I don't know if the Windows screen with all the issues will appear.
I would like to reset Device Windows but don't know how and if that is possible? as I think that may resolve this issue or maybe something similar is a fix .

Re: Save some Storage Memory!!

I let the color wheel spin for 3 or more minutes and the Device windows folders appeared.
Has happened a couple of times already but at least I have access.
It used to search for only seconds before this issue popped up.

Where in windows is the "Touch Mobile Guide" located?

Biker1 06-27-2009 01:30 PM

Re: Save some Storage Memory!!

In Device Windows.
Keep pressing Name in upper right hand corner until you see Touch Mobile? Guide, as it changes the list of names on the first page.
You have to scroll alittle bit down the first page until you see it.
Initially when I first saw the Touch Guide folder , I could not find it again as the page looked different. I then realized that changing the Name changed the page listings.
May not be explaining it in the best technical jargon, but that is how I found the file again.
Btw, I saved almost 8mb of memory in Main Memory Storage by deleting the Touch Guide.

Re: Save some Storage Memory!!

I see TeleNav uses alot of device memory. I use Google Maps so if I delete all associated TeleNav files, can I download them at a later date?
Does freeing up Device storage memory make the device run smoother?
I thought it did at first but I am not sure.

UPDATE:

I deleted>>
1) Touch Mobile Guide: approx. 8 MB
2) Telenav: approx. 4 MB

Total Main Storage Memory freed up by deleting 2 folders and all associated files is approx. 12 MB

Total: 91.05 MB
In use: 54.27 MB
Free: 36.77 MB

What to do with all this freed up memory?
I found that there are cabs to download Telenav if I ever need to.

Re: Save some Storage Memory!!

I have the stock 2.00 ROM.
I had approx 24.5 MB before deleting the Guide. I had 32 MB Memory afterwards.
Deleted Telenav and had 36 MB left.
