Should i....?
Hey all
I dont know if i should but i have had my diamond awhile now and the memeory seems to over around 75% when u click on the X in the top right, have done everything i can but doesnt seem to stay that low. i use clean RAM etc to free up memeory. battery life is also rubbish. Anyway one of the guys in work (A populer mobile company) says this may because i still using the defauult Rom/ Firmware it came with in jan this year. i have read the pros and cons of updating it but dont know if i would really get any benefit from it. what you guys think??? |
You Should!!
Without a doubt. The stock firmware is a pathetic comparison to ANY cooked ROM. Give one a go! you'll never regret it I'm sure.
Just make sure that you follow the sticky in the 'Upgrades' forum, for unlocking, then give a custom a try! |
Re: Should i....?
thanks for the reply mate. i am a little bit worried though about bricking my fone and not being able to resolve it. i work for the tech team of a mobile commications company (wont say which) and know abit about fones and blackberrys but am a bit useless when comes to this!
when you do this whole upgrade thing is there a way to allow u to go back to the orignal firmware if goes wrong??? |
Re: Should i....?
op, you work for a "phone" outfit but cant spell"fone"? thats a jewel. please say who with so i dont go there.

Re: Should i....?
The chance of bricking your device is small, provided you follow all the steps of unlocking and flashing. The benefits are huge, as the custom ROMs include tweaks and refinements that make them much better than any stock ROM. I suggest starting out with one of the cooked ROMs posted. Once you see the difference you might read up on using a kitchen to make your own.

Re: Should i....?
I was scared at first as well. I had it in my head that I would brick my phone. The guides located around this site are AMAZING. I am a flashing fiend now!

Re: Should i....?
Well worth flashing to a custom Rom.
Just be warned, once you start flashing it's like crack. http://img196.imageshack.us/img196/6545/biggums.gif |

Re: Should i....?
Agree totally that custom ROM's are the way to go. I have to hold myself back every time I see a ROM with new features popping up on this board. Battery life is great and the interfaces are much smoother. One thing I have decided to do is use the "lite" ROM's and load only the programs/interfaces that I want. As stated above, backup with PIM backup. But I also recommend buying SPB backup (saved my bacon a few nights ago). Best of luck and flash away!

Yup. You can find the stock ROMs in the unlocking sticky, and a relocker as well, just in case you feel the need to go back to the 'stock' firmaware. (or if you need to return:)) |
