Thats a very cool idea. You could call it iMetronome, a customizeable digital metronome including the tap feature you described. I'll be looking for it too.

I found this one with a tap feature: K-metronome 1.9

But for $18 I think I'll keep using my Korg metronome and keep searching.

yeah 18 bucks is pretty rough for a beat counter.
