Alltel Data Speeds

Hey guys,
Could some of you Alltel people go to this site from your phone and test your Data speeds.

http://www.dslreports.com/mspeed?jisok=1

Mine has seemed very slow the past few weeks and I was just wondering what everyone else is getting.
Mine is averaging between 100-150 kbps

This is in a revA area with 3 bars
Stock radio 1.03.13F

Re: Alltel Data Speeds

depends on radio, so you might want to have that included as well.

Is that tethering or directly from phone?
Cause my tethering speeds are always WAY faster than my actual on the phone speeds

Re: Alltel Data Speeds

I got 112kb/s but I think that's because the Opera mobile browser is slower to render. I have no clue.

Hey guys, wanted to bring to your attention in case you missed this thread, might want to check it out.

http://forum.ppcgeeks.com/showthread.php?t=63811

if you want to skim through it and skip to good stuff check out post 100 and on page 12, post 113 (to know how to enter the data), and post 118. Just installed the tcptune from the first page and followed post 100 instructions along with post 118. so far I have noticed an increase in data speeds but will test out further tomorrow. good luck:)

Re: Alltel Data Speeds

I tried the Telus Radio but it wasn't any better, still around 100kbps give or take 20.
What I dont understand is these guys that are saying they are getting 500-1500kbps??
My data isnt superfast but Its hard to believe that other Diamonds are getting speeds 5-15 times faster.

Ya, I was testing directly from my phone at that site and the best I could get was about 125 kbps

I went to speedtest.net while tethering and got these speeds, considerably faster but still not over 1mbps

weird. I know that when you use opera mobile to conduct the speed test, the result is usually lower than with ie or pie. I honestly think ie6 also gives a lower result than pie but when you run the test from ie/pie, you should still see a better result. if you are sitting in solid rev a area that is. I just ran it from work (ev 3 bars) and doing the 100kb test, got the unstable screen, picked 400Kb, got 788kbit/sec result, then select 1mb test, got 880kbit/sec but it fluctuates from 500 to 1400 at times. I used pie for these test by the way. will try speedtest.net right now.

Re: Alltel Data Speeds

Well I called Alltel and they said in my area I should be seeing 400-500k download speeds from the phone and 1-1.5m tethering.
But noone could tell me why mine was so slow so after 30 min of this person and that person they asked what ROM version I had on my phone! CRAP! I didnt want to tell them ugh...Mighty's.
and I know if I had of they would have said that was my problem so Im flashing the stock ROM right now and then Im gonna call them back.

yep, funny, nice catch. that would have been no good telling them Mighty:)

when you get back on the shipped rom and call back, make sure they check your data settings particularly ask them to check and make sure your device is rev a enabled. Its on the device for sure, with sprint you can get it using ##786#, enter unlock code, data parameters but Alltel is different. they should know how to guide you into settings to determine this. Good luck.

by the way, here is the speedtest.net result for me did a few times but this one is the best one.

Re: Alltel Data Speeds

I just got off the phone with them and they were little help. 50min on the phone with them and pretty much all they did was check my ROM and PRL version which was fine. The guy was pretty nice though and got my email and said he would keep checking and msg me if he came up with anything, he also gave me HTC USA tech support number and said to call them and see if they could figure out anything.

Riley I didnt get your message till I hung up already. I dont know Alltels code and not sure Id know what to look for if I did.
I get a revA icon in the taskBar but I dont know if thats what Im recieving for sure.
The guy from Alltel got on a Diamond with me on the phone and went to that site and ran 4 tests and he got a 5xx, 4xx, 72, 582.
I really wish he hadnt got that 72kbps.

Ifr anyone knows how to check what Rileys talkin bout let me know

my data speeds are very inconsistent, at times it can be up to 500kb/s, others 100, others as low as 28 haha, working on trying to find a good spot in my house with decent speeds

I just tested mine with the 1MB speed test from Opera and got 833 kbit/sec with 1 bar in Houston on RevA. I have the stock radio 1.03.13F. I'm not sure about the tethering.

Tethering

Phone only @ DSLReports

In IE - The best I got was 1759kb/s, and the worst I got was 1536kb/s out of 5 tries on the 1MB test. Not too shabby :)

In Opera - The best I got was 1253kb/s, and the worst I got was 818kb/s. (That's sort of disappointing considering I like Opera a lot more :-P)

Benchmarks obtained running Mighty ROM 4R3BORN, and the Telus 1.04.05V Radio.

Re: Alltel Data Speeds

I went to my sons baseball game last night and thought Id try another test over there. Its just across town, maybe 5-7 milesfrom my house. with the exact same signal (revA with 2-3 bars) all my results were over 500 and the best was 982. Kinda makes me wonder if it may not be a tower issue with wichever tower Im hitting while at my house.

Here is something to try. ##33284 (##DEBUG) and send. This will load up Field Trial. Click on left Soft Key, and go to HDR, there is a line there. "Requested Data Rate" this will tell you how fast it is requesting the signal and everything. play with that some, download the file and look at the debug file and see what you notice or anything liek that.

I am on an EVDO/1X area right now, and I am able to send request up to 1222 KB/S, so that will give you an idea. give it a shot and see if it works for you guys has well.

HA! not at the moment.
I figured Id switch to Cons while im trying to get this data issue straightend out since his uses Alltels stock ROM for a base.
His 11/28 is Pretty much just an Alltel stock ROM with the bloatware removed.
For stability, if your on Alltel, Cons is #1. Its just getting a little dated.
6 months in ROM Time is like forever, lol :???:

Ok heres what Iv found over the past week;
In all these Places I have a revA signal with 2-4 bars
At home (Ava) 100-300 kbps
Across town in ava 500-1000 kbps
at work in springfield over 2000kbps!

So what do you guys think, is it a tower issue or do you think its probably normal and I should just accept that Im not gonna get good data speeds at my house?
Its just weird that I have the same signal in all three places but have that much difference in speeds.

And thanks again Con, this way of testing is much eaiser than doing the mobile speed test all the time.
