Opera9.exe Kills Battery

I have MR 4.7 and several others have reported it killing battery life. Any ideas how to make it not load on startup?

Have you tried Calcu opera real exit cab. here it is: hope it works

By the way, I think you will need to open opera after startup and then close it for opera9 to exit. so in essence, this probably is not what you are looking for...

My problem is album searcher.exe its draining my battery badly, i don't know how i even executed it and i need to kill it every time, for my battery to operate normally within hours vs minutes to drain. My battery monitor shows a major difference!

You might not be aware, but MSR4.8 is out. Maybe this new version fixed it? To answer your question, go to \Windows\StartUp and remove Opera9.exe from there. Don't know if it returns after a soft reset though, so try it out.

its not there... see my above post

Re: Opera9.exe Kills Battery

Weird, I could swear I saw it there. But then, the registry thing you pointed out makes sense. Maybe the registry is the dad that belts out new "clones" everytime we delete Opera9.exe from the Startup, lol

The setting in that cab is already the default in some ROMs (I had it set that way in the leaked AT&T Fuze ROM). This prevents it from lingering when closed but not running at startup in the background (I have that setting and I notice it is running on a fresh soft reset). To eliminate you need to eliminate operaL.exe (or rename it to operaL-.exe) BUT that results in the TF3D tab no longer working as well as other shortcuts to opera. If you don't use Opera then this probably isn't a problem but if you are an opera user then you won't be happy...

No 4.8 has the same problem.

Hibby you are exactly right. Awesome!

Re: Opera9.exe Kills Battery

so by removing this, it will make it so opera only loads when u launch it, then closes it completely when u exit?

hibby50 04-14-2009 07:16 PM

Re: Opera9.exe Kills Battery

yea it wont use htc's pre load thing... if u ever had an opera version that opened when u soft reset and it wasnt in ur startup, it is because it wasnt preloader compatible

ok, I went there and there are 2 folders in it. I expanded the apps folder and there is an Opera9 folder. Am I just supposed to delete the Module in the Opera9 folder to help out my battery life? Im on MR4.8 as well and compaired to 4.4.5 the battery life is poor. Also how will this affect how opera works? It will no longer open from the TF3D tab? Anything else?

I just deleted the entire folder. No point in having an empty folder. Plus I dont know if it would confuse it somehow.

So far nothing has been affected on my end. when I run opera from the internet tab, it opens just fine and closes just fine.

I dont know how it will improve battery life though, someone else needs to elaborate on that.

Re: Opera9.exe Kills Battery

Yeah all you gotta do is be able to delete the folder. For some dumb reason the process likes to kill memory. my theory is that it uses active background data transfer and that is what kills battery life.

Sorry for any typos but I'm posting from my phone waiting on an oil change.

Re: Opera9.exe Kills Battery

ok,I looked into calculins cab, here is whats inside of it:

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Opera\Preload]
"RealExit"=dword:00000001

and it works.
may be we can do something similar for htc audiomanager and albumsearcher?

I have a vogue with tiny-biny battery lol.unfortunatly all smart guys switched to TP and diamonds and vogue threads are empty lol.but the good thing is that the tweaks works for me.

If somebody knows something, please post it here.

Try exiting opera using the opera menu on the lower right side, then check.

I was like WTH, until I just tried the in program exit.

Re: Opera9.exe Kills Battery

I can't find any of the stuff you guys have mentioned, but one thing is for sure, I got a Opera9.exe and a OperaPreL.exe running all the time in the taskmanager. Even If i kill them, they come back instantly. In my Windows\Autostart (I don't have a Startup folder, I'm on a Swedish stock ROM which may be the reason) I have AutoShortcut, HTCStartUp, iLock2, poutlook, SIPChange. I searched the registry and nothing at all..

Hmm sorry Art. I wish I could tell you where to look. Did you check the registry like I suggested above.

Yea I did check hkcu\software\htc\bootlauncher, but I had no Opera folder there. I also searched the whole device registry for "Opera" but found nothing that had anything to do with startup :/ Well I guess I have to live with it, the two processes only takes 1kb each according to TaskManager.

And eat a bunch of battery too!

ArtQ 08-10-2009 10:10 PM

Re: Opera9.exe Kills Battery

I at least managed to kill the both processes now (had to kill OperaPreL.exe first to get them both gone), no problem for me to kill them right after bootup so I guess this is my solution for this :-(

Re: Opera9.exe Kills Battery

Sorry man. Like I said, try a different ROM. The ones here are CDMA and will only work on phones in the US.

ArtQ 08-15-2009 05:39 PM

Re: Opera9.exe Kills Battery

Yey, Stock ROM 2.03 fixed the startup problem. Opera is no longer started on startup :)
