High res backround

Does anyone know a way to keep the resolution of a pic u set to the backround. Seems to ger blurry everytime i add it compared to the way it looks in the picture viewer.

Re: High res backround

Make sure it's 480x640. If it's smaller or larger than that it will resize it and look blurry. If it's too small you might have to find a better image.

Try these:

Re: High res backround

yeah thats the res ive been using but when added as a wallpaper it still seems to blurr it up maybe a higher than the normal 480x640 will work better

Re: High res backround

I've noticed that if youre using TF3D it doesn't actually use 480x640 pixels do to the curtains at the top and bottom...so maybe a square picture will work?

Re: High res backround

yeah what ive been doing is resizing the pic to about 480 x 500 and adding the bottom part as a white empty space to fill to 640. i can see the whole pic fine none is cut off but looks slighty blurry not as sharp as i see it in the photo album.

Re: High res backround

I notice the same thing. I have a bunch of wallpapers at 480x640 and they're definitely blurry when used as the wallpaper, but if you look at them in the photo viewer they're sharp. I'm running grooveROM 4 (wm 6.1 with HD manilla). I'm not sure if I noticed this on the Stock Sprint ROM or not, never paid that much attention.

My pictures look nice and sharp on mine.

Here you go:

http://probex.ca/SPJ/wallpaper-template.png

Save this template and add your wallpaper into it, and then use it as your wallpaper. It will be cropped right and look great.

Have to give that a try. Thanks

It's still not as sharp.

nevermind the weird overlay part on the bottom, was using it to darken the bg below the slider bar on the bottom of manila.

Does this have something to do with using HD Manila?

Re: High res backround

yeah thats exactly what im talking about. and in mystery's rom you can put a backround pic to the drop down start menu, and that one stays at the sharp resolution. but the wallpaper is still blurry

I was actually going to make an identical thread but you beat me. and to everyone who has responded (except ydoyoucare, who knows what jjairal is talking about), he is not talking about cropping or template issues or the original picture resolution. TF3D either lowers the background res slightly or uses something like a grain filter. open a wallpaper in album or even use it in S2U2 and immediately switch to touch flo (to compare better) and you will notice that, exactly as he says, the background is a little blurry. My guess is that it was a design choice to make any writing and objects in touch flo stand out better, but when someone such as myself bases the layout on the wallpaper and uses transparent everything, it can be a bit annoying.

I posted about this a while back:

It was bugging me, too.

Hope that helps!

Once again, your post is talking about the image being sketched because of using touch flo HD. As far as I am aware, he is not using touch flo HD and his problem is not the image's native resolution.

Granted the OP did not initially say he was using TF3D HD, however he agreed that the symptoms were the same as ydoucare, who *did* say he was using HD.

I see what you mean. I had been so focused on the proportions being incorrect, that I did not notice that, even though the images edges are correctly lined up with the edges of the screen on the sides, the image is still a bit blurry. However, it is less blurry and distorted than if it were sized at 480x640. I'll keep investigating....

Edit: BTW, to go back to something Jordan88 said, it does seem as though TF3D is doing something to the image. I can confirm there is a copy being made because I recently moved all my wallpapers around and happened to reboot shortly after. I wondered if the wallpaper I had chosen would go away, since the original was no longer in the same location, but it did not, which means that TF3D is copying it.

Re: High res backround

Its almost like when u add pics to your phone contacts thro the edit contacts screen it lowers the res, but if u add your contacts through the album viewer it stays nice and sharp.

Ah sorry, i must have missed that. Although i think the blurry image is still not related to the type of manilla being used. I am pretty positive that it is done by touchflo itself.

Hmm, so then the question is, is it possible to find where that copy is and replace it with a high res image, or prevent it from creating a lower res copy...

I saw some stuff about manila editor wondering if maybe the wallpaper file can be found there and changed to keep the resolution.

There's a thread at xda development and hacking forum going on about this too. The wallpaper are same on touch hd, so its not device specific either. I've edited the 7adfaca3_manila to change the resolution when it manila resizes the pic. Some test files are attached, just remove the label before copying to windows. Default is saving pics at 512x512, I made files for sizes 100, 512, 800, 1024, 1600, and 2028. After 800 its hard to tell a difference. Manila saves backgrounds in windows directory as homebackground.img. It actually is a jpg file that it makes, here's properties of the image manila made when I was using my modded file for 1600x1600.

Thanks! I had done some searching at one point, but not found anything about the issue. Probably hard to find the right terms to search on. Your screenshots are quite dramatic!

Hey showaco. Thanks for the info. So i have to find the manila file that stores the bacground image and change it to one of the files you gave with the zip.

Actually, you just have to strip the part of the file name up to and including the underscore for the size you want to use and then copy that file into Windows. The next time you select wallpaper, it will use the new resolution. I have tested it, and it seems to be better, but I can better tell when I am at work and have my Diamond hooked up to my PC with My Mobiler.

@hankbear

Thanks for the info! but I am still confused haha.

So do we need to edit a manilla file? Or are we able to simply rename a wallpaper we have from, for example "wallpaper.jpg" to "homebackground.img" and replace the homebackground.img that already exists?

no need to edit a manila file, those are in the zip. Just remove first part of file name(my labels) so it looks like this: 7adfaca3_manila. Copy that into windows, and enable tf3d again. Then copy some hi-res wallpaper to your phone and choose it in the settings tab like you normally would in tf3d. I am now testing loading the homebackground.img file directly back into manila without it using the standard reload that manila does. It seems to be helping a little bit more.

Man, I tried this and it just doesn't really help. They seem to line up correctly now, as in none of the image is cropped, but they're still blurry.

Showaco: With those pics that you posted, can you take a comparison screenshot of them in the photo viewer to compare?
