A/C adapter and Computer connection at same time
 

On my Palm Treo 700wx, the docking station allowed for two connections, one to a PC for data connection, and another connection for an A/C adapter to charge the phone. I liked this set up because it would charge my phone even if my computer was shut down. I was wondering if a mini usb cable to dual usb cable set up could replicate this with an HTC Diamond. Anyone tried this?

Your Diamond comes with a dual cable for PC connection/AC charging. Its that rectagular box with two mini usb female inputs, and 1 mini usb male output.

And what you pictured still wouldn't charge it if your PC was shut down.

On most computers the usb is still powered even after shut down. Now I'm not sure if that's true on laptops. But I know my 2 desktops still have powered usb even after they have been powered down.

The dongle is for head phones and charging, not data and charging I don't think.

Use bluetooth to active sync and the wall charger is the only solution I can think of.

Yes USB will continue powering/charging your phone if you turn off your computer. I does so on my laptop as well. But that will varry from computer to computer. I know if I leave my phone hooked up to my laptop and a portable laptop hd hooked up to another USB port they both stay on if I turn off my laptop while the a/c adapter for my laptop is connected.

Well one USB cable is strictly for power, and other other USB cable is for power and data. Sounds exactly like what I am trying to do. Was just curious about what other people are doing since I am tired of switching USB cables to charge my phone.

Also, my laptop has 5 USB connections, and none of them stay on when my laptop is turned off, even if my laptop A/C adapter is plugged in. I would guess this is an energy saving measure.

If one end goes to a PC, and the other into the supplied AC adapter it should work... even if the pc is shut down and has no powered usb ports. That being said, if your ac adapter ever had problems and shorted it could damage the pcs usb port. What you can do is the usb that plugs to the PC, you can put a piece of tape over the pin 1 contact isolating the AC power from the PC usb port.

Well then your laptop is just as mine is. No power through any USB when it is powered down. So, like I said before, it still wouldn't work for what you wanted it to. You need to get one of these:

That way you have the AC plug inserted directly to it, and your problems are solved.
