Using Sprint phone with Alltel

I know there have been some posts but they were kind of conflicting...

See I want to throw my Mogul out the window and get a Touch Diamond.

I use Alltel but their phones on ebay are extremely expensive. Where Sprint phones sell really cheap...

If I buy a Sprint phone what will I need to do to use it for Alltel?

Unlock it and then install then Alltel ROM

Here is a great thread on how to unlock your phone... It's for the Diamond

And here is a good Alltel ROM for the Diamond...

So this is FOR SURE? I don't want to get a phone that doesn't work... I would be soooo mad lol

And I can switch over the phone with Alltel right? Its a 60 mile drive to the nearest store.

Re: Using Sprint phone with Alltel

I can't guarantee this... If it was me, and if I was confident in being able to follow the directions correctly, I would do it... I trust the information posted in both threads above.. I haven't personally converted a Sprint Diamond to Alltel, but many people have been able to.. Look through the threads and the Diamond forum... If other people have been able to do this, I think you can be fairly certain you will be able to do it and that it will work... I wish the best of luck to you... If you are confident in being able to unlock the phone and then being able to install a ROM, you should have no problems at all...

Re: Using Sprint phone with Alltel

I've done custom ROMS on my Mogul. I'm just worried about it saying Sprint on the top, and I have to tell them the HEX number on the new phone...

Re: Using Sprint phone with Alltel

You could call Alltel up and ask them... If you have the Hex, and you are running an Alltel ROM, it should work.

Re: Using Sprint phone with Alltel

What do you mean if I have the HEX? If its a Sprint HEX will it still work?

Sorry if I'm being noobish... I just am

Re: Using Sprint phone with Alltel

I'm thinking of doing the same thing. Why are there so many Sprint versions available on Ebay and only a few on Alltel? And the prices are Extremely Different between Spring and Alltel!

Seems like a no brainer to buy the Sprint version, unlock it, install the Alltel Rom and then activate the phone. I could easily save nearly $300 by going this route.

Has anyone done it yet and does the phone run smoothly?

Thanks,
ApexStang

I think if its the same HEX, it will work.. I think the HEX just lets Alltel know what the model of the phone is...

One reason for the mass amounts of Sprint Diamonds is that Sprint has had their version of the phone out a lot longer... And a lot of early users of those Sprint Diamonds probably upgraded to the Touch Pro... As to the price differences, its basic supply and demand.. A lot of Sprint-branded Diamonds on the market will lower the collective selling price...
