Contacts sync to outlook?

Comming from a ppc 6800...i was running into problems every time i would sync my phone to my laptop it would literally reinstall everysingle one of my contacts. so if i had for example a contact titled MOM. everytime i would sync my phone to my laptop i would end up getting 2 contacts titled mom.
SO what i did was i deleted all my contacts from my outlook program and sync'd my phone. It ended up deleting all my numbers on my phone. So i started all over again input alllll my numbers. SO now im here again now with the diamond pro. I sync'd once. Got all my contacts in. But im hesitant to sync again. Can someone help me with this problem. I want to be able Edit contacts in Outlook and sync it properly to my phone. How can i dictate which item..(outlook or phone) to be the primary item? TIA

Re: Contacts sync to outlook?

The way you control this in the sync partnership properties on the host PC. It is a little depending on wheter you are using XP activesync or vista MDC. Basically, if you connect, then open the sync partnership settings and then the content sync settings, you will see an option to change how the contacts are synced (e.g. which device wins when it already exists).

Re: Contacts sync to outlook?

MDC = Mobile Device Center in Vista. Start a sync, open sync center by clicking on the sync icon on the task bar. then right- click on the device partnership and select open MDC. if you are still connected, you will then be able to change the content sync setting by selecting mobile device settings on the right.
