Shut the phone completely off and the hold down the Power button, volume down button and Enter button for about 3 seconds. This will do a hard reset for the Sprint Diamond. There is no need to push the reset button

While holding down the Volume Down, Enter, and Power buttons, press and release the Reset button.

The manual is apparently wrong; it doesn't mention the Power button.

I had a problem with doing a hard reset with the usb connected to my laptop, maybe that is why it's not working for you?

What a pain in the arse. Power button, vol down, enter AND reset hole. Must have dropped the phone 3 times while trying to push all of those at the same time. Got it though. Pushed all of the buttons while the phone was completely off and the reset screen came right up.

Thanks. i thought i bricked my diamond, and the instructions online are for mostly GSM diamonds, and it wouldn't work for me. These instructions worked like a charm.
