Browse like a desktop
How can I browse websites without them taking me to the mobile versions? (Example, Google calendar) The diamond has a great enough resolution where I don't think it needs these gimped versions of the websites.

opera already does this.... |

Re: Browse like a desktop
I thought people said skyfire didn't play with the diamond?
|
Re: Browse like a desktop
As for Skyfire, it doesn't work as far as I know. I haven't tried to get my beta code sent to the Diamond though.
But I'm glad that there's an option for full sites instead of mobile ones. The layout of ESPN and CNN are much better in full versions than the mobile ones. |
Re: Browse like a desktop
syfire does work on my diamond, goto website and edit profile.

Re: Browse like a desktop
ok...i got my diamond to browse like a desktop by changing the User Agent to 3 and Custom-User Agent to SAMSUNG-SGH-i900/1.0 (Windows NT 5.1; U; en) Opera 9.5. the Custom-User Agent string is from my Orbit 2. my initial perception is that rendering is somewhat slower. below is pic of the msnbc.com website on the diamond before zooming in. below the picture is the content of my opera.ini file (which is where changes are stored). (if you try this, be sure to BACKUP your opera.ini file first!!). i'll continue testing to see if this works with other websites.

looks like my changes don't work with every site... i'm still getting mobile sites vs. desktop. the search continues....

Re: Browse like a desktop
Yeah, I'm pretty disappointed that the Sprint Diamond has this flaw as well. Why would they put this default setting in their version of Opera to make it identify as a mobile browser?
|
Re: Browse like a desktop
I figured out ESPN...just go to http://espn.go.com in the address bar instead of the normal www.espn.com.
I did this and it loaded the whole page; obviously a little slower than the mobile site, but it sure as heck looked good on that VGA screen. |
Re: Browse like a desktop
Someone has to figure this out. I tried a registry hack I found on xda, and messed with the opera.ini file. Both gave me no results.
I wonder why this isn't bigger news. Seems no one is complaining about this. |
Re: Browse like a desktop
I thought that the opera the diamond came with was supposed to be great? it always goes to mobile versions of websites or only a few? and skyfire wont work ouch this hurts def something im going to be angry with when i get my phone this week.
|
Re: Browse like a desktop
Also what about skyfire doesnt work? does it not install at all? not load up? crash alot more than on other phones/etc ? thanks in advance

I think these sites were coded to recognize mobile browsers and give condensed versions of the page to cut down on load times. For standard web pages, you get the desktop browser view. One of the previous rips of the Opera build had this limitation a while back also. IMO it's frustrating and unnecessary. |
Re: Browse like a desktop
Can some one look into www.nfl.com. It always loads up in mobile version

Re: Browse like a desktop
www.2advanced.com Perfect site to show off your flash capabilities to your iphone friends.

Re: Browse like a desktop
question... is there a reg hack or setting so that my phone is recognized as a desktop rather than a cell phone?
The only reason i want flash is to get www.pandora.com to work, but it tells me pandora only supports certain sprint phones and not mine... so i wanna fool it into thinking i'm at my desktop... any suggestions? |
Re: Browse like a desktop
I agree, I'd love to get pandora working on my phone

I went to this that site and it said my brower did not have flash. Do I have to download flash? and what version? |
Re: Browse like a desktop
Anyone had any luck finding a fix for this. I hate having to scroll to the bottom of every page I go to just so I can click html format not mobile format. This is probably my biggest annoyance with my phone right now.

Re: Browse like a desktop
okay, so how does the opera browser compare to skyfire? I saw on youtube that you can even access youtube through opera and watch videos on their pages just like skyfire, are there more video related things in webpages that opera can interact with?

Re: Browse like a desktop
in the browser goto the address opera:config
Goto the User Prefs Scroll near the middle Change Custom User Agent to: Mozilla/4.0 (compatible; MSIE 6.0; Windows NT 6.0; en) Scroll to the very bottom of that section. Hit Save. Browse to a page formerly mobilized. SUCCESS! |
Re: Browse like a desktop
do we have to type in the stuff in ()
|
Re: Browse like a desktop
Added FlashLite 3.1, and changed my user agent to Mozilla/4.0 (compatible; MSIE 6.0; Windows NT 6.0; en) But I still can't get pandora.com to work, or even try to work. Any suggestions?

I typed that in exactly (triple checked for typos) but espn.com still sends to the mobile site, as does nytimes.com. What else could I try/what am I doing wrong? |
Re: Browse like a desktop

|
Re: Browse like a desktop
