Diamond Release date pushed back again

Yet again, to no surprise to anyone, Sprint has pushed back the release date of the diamond. Can't give too many details but the advocate program was about to begin and Sprint had even shipped out a batch for the advocates but unfortunately the Diamond failed one of Sprints test that it was running and the release date has been pushed back again. I don't have any info on what test but my DM is trying to find out this information as we speak. It looks like the advocate program should launch late September. Sorry for the bad news however it doesn't look like the release date of the PRO will be effected and it doesn't appear as if it has had the same issues. I will post more once I find out all the info.

Relax buddy. Just got a conference call with corporate Sprint and this is news that just came out. We knew about all the other delays but this is something that was just released via conference call to all the managers. So before you jump, understand this information is new. Just finished with the call about thirty minutes ago. We have had delays but this is a new one.

This is news that was just released literally thirty minutes ago. We had a two o'clock mountain time, conference call. In this call this was one of the topics that was presented.

probably the bug that HTC told my telus insider about. telus released anyways but. basically calls dont hang up with the hardware button all the time and causes a device freez which makes the phone appear in a sleep state and is running up users bills if your not careful.

i forget what forum i was searching but one new diamond user had a hefty data bill because of this. telus reversed the charges no questions because of this known issue.

i was told to expect a software update very soon for this. however i have no experenced this my self yet.

The advocate devices were pushed back, but I didn't hear anything about the launch date being pushed back.

oh ok that makes sense since those where actually going to ship about this time so they held them back, doesn't make sense to stop something that hasnt even shipped for its release 2 weeks away.

I am not dicrediting you at all but a serious question. What issue/bug could there be where they will have it figured out and fixed within 2 weeks, then get all 25-50,000 or whatever number of phones reflashed, repackaged and shipped out by the end of the month. If there really is an issue/bug I can't imagine they will have it out this month, I assume it would be sometime next month at the earliest.....

Them Chinese are pretty slick and good at what they do. Chances are the phones aren't packaged yet. The packages are prepped, but the phone, outside label, and final seal haven't been put in place yet. This would let them assembly line update all the phones in a couple days at which time they can go into boxes, seal, label, and pack for freight. Figure a few days for processing plus about a week for carrier and these phones could be arriving in a little under 2 weeks.

However you are right: If they don't get the problem fixed right away the 14th date could easily slip to the end of the month.

I called sprint today and i know how reps are but she said that the diamond will be out in two to three weeks. She didnt know the price nor did she know about the Raphel so maybe the phone will still be on the orignal launch date.

Are you saying it isn't the 14th then? Were you told the 14th last week and now its no official date again or has it always been no official date? WTF is wrong with sprint...

Would you rather have a broken device on the 14th or a working phone at a later date?

I'd rather have a working phone.

well i have a feeling that it will have its issues just like every WM device out there.

lucky for us we have this baby unlocked already so we can fix them our self because it wont happy very quickly from sprint, telus or verizon.

Re: Diamond Release date pushed back again

Okay not beat up a point. I spoke with my Sprint Rep (I manage a few hundred Sprint/Nextel Phones) and she has always been straight with me and given me dates on phones when I can't get them anywhere else.

Hi Troy

For the Diamond, I did not get a firm date, just this month. I do have a website where you can sign up to receive an email notifying you when it becomes available. http://www.sprint.com/htcdiamond

I am working with my supervisor to get a timeframe for the new Blackberries with Direct Connect. I will keep you updated.

Thank you,

From where I am sitting any date you get at this point is just a guess. While frustrating to those of us who are willing to deal with "glitches" waiting is probably a smart idea on Sprint's part since most users would complain and then return a phone that has "glitches".

frentraken 09-04-2008 12:20 PM

Re: Diamond Release date pushed back again

yep as off right now sprint is standing with no official date at this point, and I agree waiting sucks but should bring you a better product.

I very much doubt it will be "broke". I will take a phone now with some issues that can be resolved with a ROM update. It is not like the interface hasn't been out all summer for GSM, and not like there isn't a working Telus version out there. Maybe sprint should quite messing with a good thing and changing the interface or there bogus programs to screw up the phone lol.... I want the phone, bugs and all as soon as possible. But again I know what I want and what Sprint does are two totally seperate items.

I signed up for the Telus notification on the Touch Diamond... Got the notification that they were available 2 weeks after I picked mine up. Thanks a bunch, Telus... :)

With regards to the delays and stuff, one story I heard (more rumours, yay!) about the Telus launch fiasco was that it wasn't Telus screwing around with dates, but HTC delivery issues. Even the day before the phone was available in stores, we didn't know when it was going to be out "for sure". And then some stores got a few units, other stores got units a week later, etc. Delivery really seemed to be a problem. I would imagine a US launch would be even more problematic, given the number of locations/phones to get out.

Not bad considering the wait and the cost for those that can't "upgrade".. I am sure there will be more posted soon enough. This one ended Sep-03-08 20:21:56 PDT w/BIN..

i knew when it was delivered :P i got a girl on the inside and she called me as soon as the box arrived with there units in them. i got to play with them a full week before they were released for sale hehehe she wouldn't sell me one then though... something about losing her job and breaching her contract agreement with telus.

There's something major enough to delay the launch. Sprint doesn't just delay phones because they want to or anything.

sprint prolly just wants to make sure thattheir crapware is working properly... not taking into consideration that most of us dont use their junk...but theyneed to "brand" their phones for their company...

just my thought

Sprint told me the Touch Diamond will ship in mid-September but the the Touch Pro (the one with the keyboard) was now targeted for the end of October.

That's what I intend to do as well - I've had keyboard devices since my XV6600 (then the Mogul), and it's going to be quite a departure for me, but I'm going to use this time as a test. If I find I can get by without the keyboard, I will keep the Diamond, but if I find myself going through withdrawls, I will make the switch - even if it means selling the Diamond outright and having to pay full price for the Pro... we'll see!
But, perhaps this alleged delay will work in my favor, and the Diamond/Pro release dates will be within 30 days of one another.
...OR, would they purposely extend the Pro date out 30+ days past the Diamond date, JUST to prevent such returns/exchanges???

Ya, I would not doubt that too. But what ever the case.... After finally quenching my thirst for this upgrade thru the diamond.. then I can wait 1 week or 2 for the pro. I mean.. they already made me go thru hell with these delays...
