juggalo thats the light sensor ... to test it place a call then put your finger over it. the backlight should cut off. Also I believe there is a setting in prower/screen brightness to turn the sensor on.
(Start > Settings > Backlight tab and then select Auto adjust backlight)

My back light sensor is on i verified.

i tried what u said in call, called my work phone put my thumb over the well what ever it is. and it does not dim my back light. or put the screen to sleep. it automatically goes to sleep in a call after about 5-8 second. regardless if my thumb is over the sensor/camera or not.

i hope it is a camera that would be to damn cool

really? because the help file indicates the device is equip ed with 2 cameras. and if that's not a camera what is it then because its not an led and it has that purple tinge like a polarized lenses like the rear camera.

"Your device has two built-in cameras: MAIN CAMERA: A rear 3.2 megapixel CMOS camera for capturing high resolution pictures and video clips with audio

2ND CAMERA: A front camera for video calls and self-portrait shooting.

Note: the 2nd camera may only be available in some devices"

so i understand we may not have it but if what im seeing in the corner of the ear peice isnt a camera WTF is it then lol

Where does it say this in the manual? I'm looking at the PDF version that came on the CD, and the spec's say:

Camera Module
Type
3.2 megapixel color camera with auto focus

Resolution
Photo: 3M (2048 x 1536); 2M (1600 x 1200); 1M (1280 x 960); VGA (640 x 480);
QVGA (320 x 240)
Video: CIF (352 x 288); QVGA (320 x 240); QCIF (176 x 144); Sub-QCIF (128 x 96)

Digital Zoom Up to 4X

A search for "main camera" in the PDF file comes up with nothing.

Huh... Didn't even know there was on-line help. Thanks!

BTW, do you have the GPS photo enabled in yours? That doesn't show in the on-line manual or paper manual, but it's on mine. I did a registry tweak to enable it, I think...

If you look at this link, about 1/3 of the way down, you can clearly see the second camera on this phone (GSM version), and it's labeled.

while i got a few of you telus guys attention. im wondering if its just a featue limitation. but is the touch flow screen not supposed to move to land scape mode or any app for that matter when you tilt the device?

the ONLY program i have been able to get to do this is opera. and the camera but it opens in land scape mode. im kinds sad i like the whole concept of tilting to flip anything into landscape mode.

here is the pic. the thing in question is in the left side of the ear peice. you cant really see the polarization because of the camera

rectangle piece of clear/polarized plastic does not look like any light sensor i have seen on any of my other devices or laptops. looks like a lenses. its polarized.

It only does it for certain apps. There might be a solution to this over at XDA someone has made though that makes it rotate in most apps, but as of this time it doesn't work with the Telus ROM.

There's the thread if you want to keep an eye out for updates or anything.
