You never know. They may drop the price once the Touch Pro is ready to be released.

Wow, that price is definitely disappointing. I was hoping to get the Touch Pro for that much...

I'm not arguing that you should get an iPhone, but to the average consumer who already has tons of MP3s and walks into Best Buy in September they see two similar touch screen phones for $300. One with 16GB of storage and one with 4GB of storage. One with a 3.5" screen and one with a 2.8" screen. One with a multi-touch capacitive screen and one with an old resistive screen. One that is 12.3mm thick and one that is 14mm thick. One that works with iTunes and one that does not. One that is $300 right up front and one that requires you to mail in a $100 rebate. Then they see there is also a $200 iPhone option with double the storage capacity of the Diamond. Unless they are already a PPCgeek or need a business phone I can't imagine they would possibly choose the Diamond. HTC needed to price competitively.

Would I personally get an iPhone? No because I don't like the way Apple locks down the OS and controls the software available for it. But I can't imagine the average mainstream consumer ever choosing the Diamond over the iPhone 3G given the information that would be available to them in a retail store. To the average consumer the fact that iPhone is compatible with iTunes and Diamond is not is a selling point. You see it as the device being locked into one service, the typical consumer sees it as the device being the only one compatible with the most popular music store.

Yeah Diamond beats iPhone on RAM, screen resolution, camera, and OS functionality but these are not things that the average mainstream consumer at Best Buy is going to look that deeply into. They're going to pick up the devices in their hand and want to know how much content they can store on each device. HTC could have been a lot more competitive here. I get the picture from Sprint that they believe the Instinct is really their iPhone competitor and Diamond is just another niche Windows Mobile phone for business users.

hmm yeah so what WILL the pricing be for the Pro? They'd never sell it for only $50 more due to the keyboard and tv-out... so lets say $100 - $150 more!! before rebates and specials that notoriously wont apply to US the existing customers....

My guess is $100 more, just like the Mogul when it first got released.

Price is a bit disappointing especially considering it is really $400 before mail-in rebate. Was hoping for better considering the $150 Telus offer and iPhone being $200 for 8GB.
I would note that the Telus $150 price is with a three year contract

Which is why I expected $200-$250 for this phone.

The no-contract price is $549 USD on Sprint and $425 USD on Telus.
