Is it possible to disable 850Mhz Radio to Conserve Power?

Sometimes when I use my device, I roam onto Verizon or something. Since Sprint only uses 1900Mhz (or so I hear. ??), is there a way to disable the 850Mhz half of the radio to conserve power since I'll never use it anyway?

Thanks.

are you running a rom that gives you the option of sprint or home only?

go to start-settings-personal-phone-services - get network services settings and set home only or sprint only. It might be a slightly different name depending on your rom, but check all your services and you might be able to limit your bands that way.

Got to the "phone settings", but can't find a "get network services" button on there.

Thanks anyway though.

Hmm, it may need to be enabled through the registry.

I'm guessing you don't know how to do this?

at phone settings screen there should be tabs at the bottom of the page, phone, services, more, advanced.

You need to go to the services tab.

If you can't get there that way, try going to connection manager and click phone settings and then click menu - network selection. That should let you click the services tab there. If not, you got me! What rom are you running? 6.1 or 6.5 or 6.5.?

You were on the right track, but I think I found what you meant to say in your first post. Under the "Services" tab in "Phone Settings" Under the "Personal" tab inside of "Settings" accessed from the Start menu there is a "network service" button. Among the options are "Home only", "Automatic A", "Automatic B", and Standard (which was selected by default). I have now set the device in a part of my home which I know previously showed up as "roaming" and am going to wait to see if it just stays on "Sprint", or if it'll show "no service", or if it'll remain unaffected.

looks like you found it. That's what I was talking about. You should not roam now that you're set for home only, so that should definitely save battery. What are you finding? Is your service adequate? Is your battery better?

Yes, I checked and I no longer Roam. Now I just get a little (hungry looking) bar that conveys the message "searching for service" by showing some blinking bars. I would be interested in doing a test to see what effect this has on battery life. This completely turns off the 850Mhz radio though, right?

I can't say for sure, a battery test might confirm it or you could check radio signals, the procedure is in the radio post I believe. that might tell you for sure. let us know what you find, both about battery and radio. It could also depend on what radio you're running, who knows? I'm just happy when my phone works. Yesterday it got stuck and I noticed the time frozen an hour later. I pulled the battery and it's been fine ever since, but might be time to flash a new rom if it happens again ! I've got 2 roms that I've downloaded months ago and I might just have to give one of them a try ! I've been on the same rom for over 3 months without a hard reset, http://forum.ppcgeeks.com/1843673-post238.html but I might finally be ready for a new one !

Cool. Which radio post is that exactly?

I'm using that one that everyone said was good in most places. That awkward obscure carrier, just thought of it, "Teus". Its definitely cooler, and I can hold a data connection in a place where I could not before, but it could just be coincidence, but maybe not.

Thanks.

I'm sure you've been in the radio thread, it's just http://forum.ppcgeeks.com/cdma-diamo...tml#post969460 and probably where you got your telus radio from, although now it looks like www.myunspace.com is no more, so you probably have to get any alternate radios from ***RADIO'S FOR CDMA DIAMOND***

I'm using 1.11.00F, but I think it's more important to have a current PRL than a different radio (if it ain't broken, don't fix it). PRL's are frequently updated as towers are built or upgraded(at least by sprint), I just updated to PRL 60671, how about you?

It seems familiar, but I can't recall ever successfully downloading anything from "MyUnSpace" even when the domain actually loaded.

Actually come to think of it, that thread is probably where I downloaded it from. As far as PRL updates are concerned, even though I'm on Boost Mobile and they have no idea what device I have, I got a text message within the past week or two reminding me to hit that "update PRL" button, which I did. Didn't roam into the "dead" half of the house with the CDMA radio on since the update though.

Keep me posted.
