TEP and Custom Roms?
 

So my Diamond stopped charging or accepting any USB connections at all last night. I'm wondering if it matters that I have a custom ROM for a TEP replacement? Anyone know?

Also, anyone know what they replace diamonds with these days? Sprint rep seems to think its either a TP2 or a Hero.

yep they still have diamonds. if it was ur 3rd swap u could request a different phone. and i believe they wont swap it without it having stock rom.

Well I can probably do a hard reset, but I won't be able to relock considering I cannot use the mini usb port.

Don't worry about relocking ... but you should use blue tooth to get the stock rom back on your phone.

Hard reset is just going to re-load your custom rom. Your much better off trying to download the stock .nbh, re-naming it to whatever (read thread on how to flash from internal storage), and flashing from internal storage. You could also use bluetooth to transfer if you have a capable PC.

Problem is that I have a dead battery and no way to charge it, so I really can't get that file onto the device. Guess I need to find a new battery for the thing.

Yeah they will send the replacement first with a box to return the old phone. So you can use the battery from the new to flash back to shipped

I had the same thing happen. I took it to a Sprint Repair store, and after 2 hours they said Yes the charger port is bad. They replaced it, but told me if I brought it in again with a Custom Rom that they would not service it again. So it's risky. If you can get a hold of a charged battery, or buy one of those charging docks, then download or bluetooth a stock .nbh as stated before and flash it using bootloader!

i went to store and they told me not to put third party themes on.. just verbal but ii got a replacement diamond but i had broken vibrating not what you have..

Or you can "lose" or "runover" your device with a car. If it's the TEP I have, I have "lost" my phone and had it replaced for the $100 co pay. Asurion insurance.

all good advice...and btw flashing stock should relock it anyway so ya no need to relock.

Good news. With some innovative use of a rubber band to keep pressure of the miniusb connector at the perfect angle the phone is currently charging and connect to my laptop. Should be able to get all my contacts off and get the spring rom transferred over to flash from memory (in case it shorts our during the flash).

Can anyone point me to a stock sprint rom?

Not true, flashing to stock does not relock your phone. You have to relock it using the instructions in the stickys. Many of us flash to stock before flashing to a custom rom to clear out any settings.

If you bring it to an autorized service center they will not replace it when they see a cooked rom but if you do an advanced exchange through tech support you will get the phone first and you don't have to worry about flashing your stock rom. I have ran a repair center for years and when they go back to the warehouse all they check for is water and physical damsge.

Once your phone is properly unlocked, you will not have to unlock again after flashing back to the Sprint stock rom. If this isn't happening for you, then something is definitely wrong.

I have a Diamond I'm looking to bring in for servicing and reflashed the stock Sprint rom back on as well as relocking. How do I check to see if I properly relocked it?

After you relock put it into bootloader and it should look like this:

Thanks but the screenshot you posted shows "security unlocked". If it was properly relocked, would it say "security locked"?

Nope, the security unlocked notification applies to the radio not the spl. The spl is really what changes when a device is unlocked verses locked.

Ah I see. Well it turns out it didn't matter anyways since the Sprint store I took my Diamond to for repair decided to replace it for me. I have to go pick up the new one tomorrow. Hopefully it's a brand new one and not a refurb. hehe
