can you "research" a signal

sometimes I get on a 1X, when I know i'm in EVDO area. Is there a way to manual research for a better signal.

I notice it gets stuck a lot of times when i'm using something like wmwifirouter or wmtorrent.

Start > Settings > Personal > Phone > Services > Mode Of Operation ("get settings") > Set to "EVDO Only"

Probably should have mentioned that I am using OMJ's latest WM 6.5.3 rom. It might only be a feature of 6.5.3, or any prior version. But that's what I am using. But I have just discovered using that option actually prevents me from getting calls a lot because it actually only connects to data not voice. So you don't get SMS or incoming calls. Good for specific situations I guess, but anyone else who read this and has 6.5.3 keep your phones on hybrid.
