New Arrive owner
Hello everyone. I previously had a Touch Pro 2.. a touch pro before that.. and a mogul before that. Over the past few weeks I was thinking about upgrading to the IPhone 4S but I decided it wasn't worth wasting my upgrade. I ended up picking up a used but good condition HTC arrive for $150 on ebay. I only received it yesterday but i've been so impressed by it thus far. It is like a NIGHT and DAY difference between the Arrive and touch pro 2. The touch pro 2 was like a curse. I never owned a phone that was so smooth before. It's like a dream. I'm trying to figure out why hasn't the Arrive or Windows phone 7 OS gotten more publicity? This is like a diamond in the rough.
There are some little quirks here and there that I have to get used too.. such as the super ultra sensitive front buttons. I don't know how many times I have it the searched button by accident. Also, for some reason, the alarm sounds very low. I admit I disregarded the Arrive when it was released because reviews made it seem like it was underwhelming...but I have been pleasantly surprised so far. |

Re: New Arrive owner
wp7 is about to get some major publicity within the next month or so. on wpcentral there are articles about even sprint now liking the arrive and will promote it in their newsletters.
it is a great phone and I've had it since launch and it got even better once I found and installed the mango betas and now that the official version is out its much better. the only thing that cripples the arrive tho is the SPRINT NETWORK with its slow dialup level speeds that also drain the battery and makes any streaming impossible and makes all the Facebook activities and everything else hard. |
Re: New Arrive owner
coming from the TP2 myself, I wasnt fond of NoDo. But now that Mango is out, I'm almost positive WP7 will get some spotlight.
The only bugs that drive me nuts is mainly the music player, and how it cuts out whenever you slide the keyboard out. Also, something funny happens to the music whenever you hit the search button. Speaking of, the capacitive buttons are way too sensitive :disgust: I hope HTC is working on the fixes, it's a great phone. |
Re: New Arrive owner
Similar boat here, had the Mogul, TP, TP2, now the Arrive. With mango it works great.
Question for you guys that have Mango installed. If you guys install the HTC Compass app, does it actually point North for you guys? ever since I installed Mango the HTC Compass app stopped working, and no compass app works to actually point North. Before, on Nodo, HTC Compass worked really well. |

I havent used it much, but it was working fine after upgrading Mango. Perhaps the new update broke the compass for Arrive users. |
Re: New Arrive owner
I got my arrive 3 Weeks ago and love it so far smooth, fast and fun. Yes I am going through withdraw from my touch pro 2 not that I miss the phone its self, but miss the ability to flash over and over and over again to new roms. :)

Re: New Arrive owner
I complained on the HTC support forum, and so far no response.
http://community.htc.com feel free to join that forum and complain about the compass and any other issue. You will have to post under the 7 Pro section. |
Re: New Arrive owner
Compass seems to work fine for me.

EDIT: ok tried it tried it and it loads but doesn't give a direction. There's alternative compass apps on the market that can be used till HTC updates it. |

Re: New Arrive owner
Compass is not even in the HTC apps anymore. And it seems that when devs release a Mango-ized version of their apps, it points the wrong direction. "Old Compass" just did an update and now it points east for me as well.

Re: New Arrive owner
By the way, glad you like your WP7. I also considered not purchasing the Arrive and in favor of an Android phone (I had a TP that I was having trouble letting go of), but since getting the Arrive, everyday I am enjoying in more and more.
There are a few things that bug me--USB mass storage and the lack of Google support, but other than that, I don't understand why this phone (and the entire line of phones with this OS for that matter) are not doing better. |

email and PIM: goto email accounts, select add new then select google and enter ur credentials. Google Talk: there's IM+ and GTalk Google Maps:gMaps. YouTube: there are many YouTube apps, including one by HTC ,supertube is the only one that supports uploading. There u go that should work. |
Re: New Arrive owner
It's kind of funny now that I think about it but I've purchased 5 Arrives for myself and 4 others. The phone just works!
Myself - $250 and then upgraded it to 32GB (Necessity for me!) Brother- $200 Sales Guy - $175 Neighbor - $80 Cousin - $140 ALL ON PAGE PLUS (VERIZON) ! I've been impressed with the new gen phones that have come out but not enough to change carriers etc. The one thing that lacks for me on all the new phones is the fact that the memory is not upgradeable at all. I can appreciate the new embedded flash they've put on the devices that is faster but I really need my 32GB as this phone is a music & podcast player which I really use a lot on top of every other awesome thing Windows Phone 7 does. As for some mentions of Google integration etc. I found out when I purchased my neighbors Arrive that the sub-calendars for GMAIL wouldn't show up. I was really feeling bad at the time because the multiple calendars was something I used extensively between addresses and to think that this wouldn't work for them made the phone less attractive at first. Doing a little searching I found this post that shows how to enable the calendars. Whew! Really saved the day:headbang:Mango Tip: Sync Multiple Google Calendars with Windows Phone |
Re: New Arrive owner
@dtrush the one thing that sucks about pageplus is u don't get any data at all. At least u aren't on sprint and don't have to deal with the shit speeds that are crippling the hell out of this phone.
|
So I guess I'm not the only one with slow speeds. I'm giving Sprint till beginning of next year to improve 3g data speeds before I give up and switch to verizon. I may even choose tmo if they don't merge with att.

Re: New Arrive owner
It really is ridiculous how slow the 3g is on Sprint, isn't it? Although, when I have good signal I can watch something via netflix without too much trouble. It's certainly not HD (I wouldn't even call it SD), but my daughter doesn't mind too much.
Luckily, almost everywhere I go, except work--where I need it the most--I can find a WiFi signal to use. |
Re: New Arrive owner
@lunaticlizard at least u can watch Netflix,I can't without it buffering every second, and this is on its lowest quality. Also can't even stream a song and barely can access my SkyDrive, also annoying in the people hub trying to comment on things. @yankees45us u can read about my whole ordeal in my thread in the carrier discussion section or just click it here:

@eric12341 Page Plus now has an Unlimited Talk & Text for $55 which includes 500MB data. I will not be subscribing to it because I don't really need it. I have a TP2 running Android on Boost Mobile pay as you go that is always in wireless hotspot mode mounted in my car. My laptop is on a Jotto Desk just like the police have. The phone and the computer share that connection. Of course, other devices can also connect like my daughters HP TouchPad and my wife's :angry7:EVO:angry7: that serves everyone from time to time. It's a cheap alternative to the high data prices only running with tethering for all of the other smart phone plans. Fact is that I need my data on my laptop to remain connected to the VPN when I receive a call which current 3G CDMA smartphones don't support simultaneous phone & data connections. I don't see the need to purchase portable data that can't serve my data needs by just having it soley on the phone. I need Verizon towers for talk because it's the best you can get IMHO. All in all, I guess I'm on Sprint's towners with Boost but the speeds aren't really that bad I guess in my metro area. My CRM and e-mail seems to run just fine over the connection. Netflix seems to stream fine over Boost after the initial buffering gets finished. |
Re: New Arrive owner
@dtrush yea that's what I meant 500MB isn't any data ,need at least 5GB but it's good that u have a workaround, boost probably won't be fast in your area much longer once more of those hipsters get on. Seems that my speeds have gotten even worse as it has taken me like 5 minutes to even get here when it normally takes me 2 (which is still slow) can't wait for my t-mobile sim to arrive so I can activate my HD7. 100mins, unlimited text and 5GB data for $30 on a much much faster network.
|
Re: New Arrive owner
Yeah Sprint speeds are kind of slow, but im only paying $40 a month for my Arrive with unlimited nights/weekends, cell to cell, unlimited text, and internet, and 500 minutes to landlines.
So I can't complain. Gotta love the old SERO plan. |
Yeah, I have complained to Sprint several times and since they are working on the problem they basically tell you to wait it out or just leave. They even offered to let me go with no etf. So hopefully this is a sign that after they fix the data issues and introduce lte they'll be back on top. I hope that's the case cause I love their discounted prices.

Re: New Arrive owner
There is a HTC Compass update today. It fixed the issues I had before with that app but the other compass apps still point east for me. Maybe we will get a driver update at some point.
