Where does Apache store the backup

When I install a new ROM apache stores a backup on the phone. This is to be installed during a hard reset. Where does the Apache store the back up?

Can this back up be change? It seems to me that a different back up could be installed on the phone. This way when you do a hard reset, the new (WM5-->WM6) could be installed with out doing the ROM install from a PC.

To take this one step further, someone could have several ROMs on a storage card and pick the one they want installed. Now this seems a little out there because you would have to be able to choose the destination of the BU.

But I guess you can see the benifits of this idea..... Whadda ya think?

Bro, seriously, what are you talking about? This isnt WinXP where it creates system backups. There are several 3rd party apps that will do that but even then you must specify where your backup goes to.

Oh, no. Because any change from WM5 to WM6 or anything of the like has to be done on the PC with the phone connected and in BL mode.

Again, no. ROMs cannot be installed from a media card. The phone must be connected to the PC and loaded into BL mode. Once you are in BL mode there is not way to access any storage card and therefore the reason the ROM must be installed from the PC

No benefits as nothing here can work in no possible way. Nice thoughts but just not possble.

OK, if it doesn't store a BU, does it just delete everything that has been installed? And restore all registry entries to "as installed"?

As to the benefit, someone could make custom ROMs. Anyone wanting to try it, could save it to phone and do a hard reset. There would be no need for a PC.

Can you tell me, where does the phone find the "default" setup when you do a hard reset?

That is correct, it deletes everything as in a format and install of the OS

Does anyone wanna try what? there are many custom ROMs already made but again, if the phone has to be in BL mode to install the ROM and once it is in BL you cannot access the storage card, how do you propose to get to the .cab (or whatever executable file) to install the ROM?

I would assume this one is in the Windows directory, EXT ROM and registry.
