mine was doing this a while back, but it stopped since..
all i did was go back through the backlight/power options and recheck/OK everything, reboot.

im sure youve already tried that though... since, mine has stopped with that annoying coming back on every 5 min or so..

What about checking the box that says notify when signal unavailable..

does it happen while inside your holster? it use to happen to mines but it was the four small magnets that was turning on my screen. after i removed the magnets it stop

anyone ever come up with a resolution??

mine does it on both the Apache and Vogue phone

I have this problem, too. This was causing me to call people randomly until I installed slide to unlock. It is still annoying, but at least I am not calling random people anymore. Could it be related to the automatic send/receive option for email? When my screen comes on, it does appear to be using the data connection.

I was told by Sprint CSR's multiple times at different branches that it has something to do with the network communicating with the phone or the signal updating. I was also told by them that they all do it, PPC's I mean. There was also no fix atleast that they knew about. I guess we all just have to live with it for now.
