Infrared remote
I'm looking at 2 or 3 "remote control" apps for PPC. They all list the 6700 as a supported device, but Im just wondering if our IR is powerful enough? Has anyone used it before as a remote control?
|
I have tryed many. I did get one running but the ir was weak. It did work ,but I had to hold it just right and be close.
|
meh the ir works really well at 1-2 ft.. gets really precise at 2-4ft (oon full charge/charging) soo.. as long as your couch is less then 4 ft away from your tv its great... infact i use
some pocket remote app myself.. i want to use it to turn on my ps2 :) (i use WinCESoft's RemoteControl II) its got a pretty cool quick learn fucntion.. :) |
I used Novii's remote deluxe and it works just fine with my tv from over 10 feet. Even works on my 6700 with WM6.
|
I use Novii Remote as well... about 10 feet away from my TV, and it works perfectly.
Easy setup also. |
I'll third that with Novii. They must do something special with the IR. I get about 8 feet but I have to aim precisely with my TV, but better range and angle with other devices.
Novii seems the only REAL option for the 6700. Robb |
I tried Novii once upon a time, and it seemed to work well software wise. However...
In my opinion the Apache is kind of a stupid design for something like this because of the location of the IR port (on the side). It's just not possible to hold the phone in what I would consider a one-handed "natural feeling" position to use as a remote. Not slamming the Apache... just that it doesn't work in what I would consider an "intuitive" fashion for something like this. For what it's worth, my shiny new 6800 (Mogul) is even worse... the IR port is on the bottom. |
Trying out novii right now. Works well only limited to about 8-10 feet... I knew that ir port would be good for something some day...lol.
|
thanks all for ur replies...I tried novii too and it seems to work better than vito and remote_control_II. it does not work an inch beyond 8 feet for me, but that's a 6700 limitation im willing to accept

Its now a proven fact that "GHOSTS" live in my house. Or so my niece and nephew have decided. Apparently this "GHOST" wanted to watch soccer and when they changed the channel the "GHOST" changed it back!!! ;)

I've been happy with Novii Deluxe. It works at 10-12 feet just as well as the stock remote. Novii support was very helpful during my learning curve. They came up with what I needed to know to get my TV and my DVD/VHS player-recorder to respond -- all from the same codebase. And then a couple of days later, they emailed me an improved codebase that someone came up with on their own. (Just giving credit where it's due.)
Using the 6700 as a remote, to be honest, is not the most practical idea. But if simple things amuse you, as they do me, it's kind of fun. |
Yes, an amusing little toy...lol...

would love to test Novi, just dont want to pay 16 bucks for a remote...LOL

The main problem with this app isn't a fault of Novii at all, however, the IR bulb in the Apache/PPC-6700 seems sort of weak. It works well at 4-5 feet but no further. So that is a limitation if you're not controlling items that are somewhat close to you. Just a heads up... |
I tried some of these IR remote apps when I first got my phone, but none of them seemed to work that well. I also read some threads about the weak IR emitter in the 6700 so I mostly gave up on the idea. I just tried Novii Deluxe a few days ago and I have to admit I'm impressed. The included IR code database is a huge improvement over the other programs I tried. I was able to control 3 different TV's just by picking the manufacturer out of a list. I also used it on my Dish HD/DVR receiver without any problems. Best of all, I can use it at over 10 feet if I aim at the receiver carefully. Pretty cool. I guess the IR emitters vary from unit to unit. I was pretty surprised with the distance I got.
