help needed...just a few questions

So i have a few questions being that i am just a newb to this site. First off i just got the phone a few days ago and have been experimenting with it, and the battery doesnt last the whole day, so im thinking i will just get a new one. But a few questions, first being that people recommended that i clear my memory, so i dont know if that means a hard reset or soft, and im not sure on how to soft reset and hard i'm pretty sure you press two buttons and then a reset button. If someone could clear that up that would be great.
Which leads to my next question, how do i get my contacts restored, because im sure that erases everything right? I have activesync and i think i downloaded the right one for windows vista it was like mobile center 6 or something i believe. I dont have microsoft outlook so if someone could briefly tell me on how to do that also.
Lastly how come sites such as facebook wont load after signing in it just makes the login button not able to use...(College student) and would wm6 resolve this? What are the advantages of WM6 and where can i download it from?

Thanks a bunch

to "Soft reset" you simply press (with stylus) the hole on the bottom left croner of the device (near where you plug in the usb cord) To hard reset you need to hold both of the (-) buttons while pressing in the same hole on the botom of the device. BEWARE, with hard resetting you will lose all setting, information on the device. It will be just like you first got it.
As for WM6 it is still in the testing stages and is still a little buggy. You might want to try to flash to a 3.5ROM. they are really stable and they battery lasts longer. The speed is amazing compared to the stock ROM.

Ok, well ggaeta got the soft reset thing. Just tap the bottom button. It will not erase anything.

IF YOU WANT TO BACK UP YOUR CONTACTS, CALENDAR, MESSAGES, SPEED DIALS etc
** USE FDCSOFT PIMBackup. The best personal data backup util EVER! **

If you are new to the ppc's and ROM Flashing, I wouldnt recommend flashing unless you are completely comfortable. Correct me if I'm wrong, but you cant really do any permanent damage to the device...

For facebook, they have a mobile site... I use it. i think its m.facebook.com

Post anymore questions you have! We are always happy to help

I tried the facebook thing and no such luck. So whats the point of soft reseting then? Is this backup software free, or is there a way to use activesync to get this on to my laptop? And also how does one go about flashing is a a usb cable deal, bluetooth? From what i have got out of this is that is makes better use of the available memory, and makes things smoother. By the sounds of that, sounds like it would be kinda nice as my screen takes a little bit of time sometimes between transitions.
Also i want to make a customized today screen like the ones in the thread "What does your today screen look like?" and just assumed that you needed a different ROM''

thanks you guys a very helpful

soft reseting is useful when your device is hung, or you need to activate a new driver.

PIMbackup is free. It is very good.

Yes, you can use active sync to back most of your PIM stuff up. Some stuff just doesn't get backed up by activesync though - call logs, speeddials, contact photos, etc.

You flash with a USB cable.

The new ROM kitchens are all about using newer drivers and taking adavantage of whatever space is unused. They don't work miracles, however - the hardware is only capable of so much.

You can customize your today screen without changing roms. Building it into the ROM just save you the trouble of setting it up everytime you hard reset your phone.

If you want your today screen to look AMAZING, you need the programs Wisbar Advance 2 (or 3) and Wisbar Advance Desktop. Head on over to lakeridgesoftware.com to get those. They are shareware though, so you have to buy it after the trial period is up if you want to continue using it. If you want to have a pretty awesome today screen, go to this thread http://forum.ppcgeeks.com/showthread.php?t=8211 (note: you need WM6 to get the bars at the top and bottom)

If you feel comfortable, download the WM6 ROM. Its very straightforward. I honestly think its the best PPC6700 upgrade. If you want to do it, its pretty self explanatory, but if you get confused about something, PM me or post it here.

You do need a USB cable and you need to put your phone into bootloader.

good luck!

So i used the PIM backup software but you must need a mini sd card for it to back up right? As i do not have one right now. Also is it just like downloading something and then sending it to your ppc, because right now i just use bluetooth to get stuff across. could you show me where i can download this? and then explain how to get it over to my phone

You can back it up to your main memory, but remember to copy the file it creates to your PC. Before you flash.

You need a USB cable to load ROMs. Get a USB cable, get ActivieSync4.5 for your PC (if you don't have it already), and get the ROM of your choice. WM6 is at the top of the forum, read post 1. If you are going to use a WM5 ROM, you may need additional software.

For software provided as a .cab, just copy the .cab to your PPC and open it.

BTW, you can copy over a USB cable by clicking on the Explore button in ActiveSync4.5.
