3.5 ROM: Internet Sharing/VPN/Remote Deskop?

I have Kirvin_CS_35_104_Sprint ROM installed and I love it. The only issue I am facing is that I am not able to use Remote Desktop on map laptop while connected via Internet Sharing and my company's Cisco VPN Client. I do not have any issues using Remote Desktop while connecting via Cable Internet and the VPN. I was able to use the phone as modem feature of the 2.09 Sprint stock Rom without any issues. Is there a configuration setting on Internet Sharing that would allow me to get this to work or is this just a limitation of this type of connection?

There apparently is no solution for 3.5, but I reinstalled helmi_c's WM6 ROM and now I have the modem back and it works like a champ! Hugh thanks goes out to thisguyinoc for his post.

I know it has only been 2 days since my first post, but surely someone here has faced my issue before. You guys are so incredibly smart... please can you help me!

Are you able to access the computer via IP address rather than name?

Nope! I can surf just fine prior to connecting to the Cisco VPN, but once it said connected I can't do surf or remote desktop. Both of which I can do fine when I use the VPN and my Cable Internet at home. Problem is, I have to be able to do this away from home.

If I can't get this to work, is there anyway to get the old 2.09 way of connecting to work on the the Kirvin 3.5 C & S Sprint ROM?

It sounds like what happens if you connect to a VPN on a PC and leave the "Use default gateway on remote network" checked (you will be unable to browse the Internet or send email.) There doesn't seem to be any such configuration in the PPC VPN settings. Hmm... I wonder if Internet Sharing handles gateways differently than Phone as Modem.

Leave "Use default gateway on remote network" checked where?

I'm just saying that your issue is similar to when a user leaves that option checked in their TCP/IP advanced settings. The downside to disabling that feature is that it creates a security hole on the destination network. It essentially will turn your PC into a gateway, and make your destination network vulnerable.

All that aside, I don't think your problem is related to that setting since you can connect to the Internet while connected to the VPN if you are not using Internet Sharing. It must be a "feature" of Internet Sharing that is preventing you from accessing the Internet while using VPN. Since there is little configuration available for Internet Sharing, I'm at a loss.

Thanks anyway. I find it hard to believe that I am the only one who has faced this issue.

I had this problem too. I couldn't even connect to my works Cisco VPN concentrator using internet sharing, but had no problems in the 2.0 ROM using Wmodem. Since then, I've upgraded to WM6 which comes with both, so I use Wmodem again with no issues.

So you are saying you never got it to work with IS? Are you talking about helmi_c's WM6 ROM? I installed it, but went back because of all the extra junk in it that I didn't want. If that is the one you are using, I will try it again.

Thanks!
