data connection while attached via usb cable?

I still just have the orignal battery for my 6700, so when I listen to streaming music the battery drain happens very quickly. Is there a way that I can use the usb cable attached to my 6700 and laptop and still access the data service? I have activesync installed on both devices.

u won't be able to do so while attached to the desktop, unless on wifi I think, can't remember is been awhile since I last actually synced with a desktop. the only way to use it as a charger only is to disable activsync if I'm not mistaken....and theres a program in the software section, that someone posted recently I do believe that will do this for u with the press of a button. ;) hope this helps.

When attached via active sync the 6700 uses the data connection through the computer. So as long as the computer is connected to the internet so is the 6700. You should be able to access the web with the same data speeds that the computer is getting. So as long as the computer has an internet connection there should be no problem charging and listening to streaming music at the same time. I am doing it right know. Hope that helps :)

thats not how mine acts, it wont connect to anything untill i unplug it from the cradle. still wondering why it does that, and my laptop is getting internet connection but wont connect on my phone. chrisk, if you have wireless internet, you might want to try out the wifi on the phone

Big D5 10-11-2006 10:36 PM

Sonin66 are you using ActiveSync when you are connected? I tried this with my 700wx as well and it connects fine. I wonder whats different. Got any ideas?

Sonin66 10-11-2006 11:21 PM

yes it is connected to activesync.

like ~mike said, all you need to do is disc. the activesync and you can activate the evdo and streem away 8)

but why dont you just use you device as a modem when conected you laptop (bigger screen)

OK I think I got it :thumbright: the reason I can connect to the internet when on ative sync is Pocket Controler. One of the features of PC is multiple TCP/IP addresses. Read about it here

Sorce Pocket controler: Configure multiple Connection profiles, multiple TCP/IP addresses, control multiple Pocket PC devices simultaneously by running multiple instances of Pocket Controller.

Any one else useing Pocket Controler? Dose this work for you?

wingzero 10-12-2006 08:30 AM

I connect my ppc to my pc via activesync and be able to charge and stream off the pc's internet connection.

Big D5 10-12-2006 08:13 PM

wingzero Got any idea what we are doing right because there are others that cant get this to work. Do you have Pocket Controller on your PC? Do you know is there something that needs to be set up to make the data connection work?

darkmojo 10-12-2006 09:38 PM

If you are a brave soul, you could splice USB cables and cut the data wires out and reconnect them. It's kind of a bit extreme but it would certainly work for your purposes.

remlle 10-12-2006 10:03 PM

another easier idea would be to go into active sync on the laptop or PC and turn off the access to USB. this would allow the device to get power from the PC but not use it for data. this is how you have to do it for a phone that has phone as a modem enabled on it. hope that helps

These are great work around ideas but there is a way I just don't know how to make it work for everyone like it works for me. When I connect to my laptop I can still access the internet through the internet connection on my laptop. This works with my 6700 and my 700wx I just don't know why. It works for me and wingzero, any body have any ideas why?

remlle 10-12-2006 11:42 PM

it should be working that way unless they have firewall on or somethign thats prohibiting it from working mine works that way

wingzero 10-13-2006 04:26 PM

Big D5, I had no idea. It just work that way but my pc is a home built. It also worked when I sync it with my work computer. I'll investigate and see why it works for some but not others.

drunken_monky 10-13-2006 06:16 PM

i just checked mine and it connects through computer connection. i really never tried it before....so i dont know

it works fine while on activesync :rr:

drunken_monky 10-17-2006 08:21 AM

well I just checked. and when I'm connected to activesync my ppc uses internet connection from pc.

Internet Explorer is showing error message 0x80072f78 each time trying to go to any web page.

This solved it for me:

Open Registry Editor on your desktop and locate the key HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windows CE Services.

Right-click on the value list and choose New/DWORD value. Type the name "AllowLSP" and leave the value zero.

Disconnect and connect your device and Pocket Internet Explorer (and all other applications) will start working.

Internet sharing software which is available with the new kitchen works great. Just attache USB cable and open Internet Sharing and away you go

OMJ 11-26-2007 03:18 PM

I recently tried the internet sharing on WM6 about a week ago.....I'm blown away how easy it was, and how well it works. Just got back from a weekend @ the beach, tethered all weekend......the usb cable is my new best friend :)
