Data connection - Battery impact, and auto disconnect questions
I have a Sprint 6700 and I was wondering if the PowerVision data connection really hurts my battery life. I have a few programs that need to update information but I don't want to have my data connection always on. I was wondering if it impacts battery life alot. And does it go idle when not used?
If not, is there a program that automatically disconnects the connection if it isn't used? I've tried the GBSoft tweak, but that doesn't work well for me. Thanks in advance! |
i use 6700 hacks software give little disconnect in the evo box

An always-on data connection will not drain your battery any more than a connection that times out. The only thing that drains the battery is an active data connection which is called up by certain programs. If the little arrows aren't turning gray (dormant state) and you're the the internet isn't being used, it's probably because of the dialer skin.

So you're saying that being connected doesnt take up battery... only using the connection does?

This actually depends more on the signal strength in your area. If you have EVDO enabled and are in an area with questionable EVDO signal, continual attempts to connect to the low signal strength network will quickly drain your battery. If you are in an area with constant good EVDO signal then the setting will likely have little effect.
Since I'm often in low signal areas, I find keeping the phone in 1x mode greatly saves on battery. |
