Horrible Signal Strength!!! Impossible to talk most of the time

I can be smack dab in the Middle of Washington D.C. and still cannot use the damn phone without an external antennae hooked up..

I have the new radio version (1.41), and I have put the new WM6 rom, Big J's and Pheonix.. I have tried them all and the signal strenth is just horrible that it is pretty much impossible 90% of the time to use the phone without an external antennae.

I am thinking it has got to be my phone...

I am going to a sprint store on saturday and show them just how bad it truly is.. maybe I can plead with them and they will upgrade to the 6800.. but, seriously, I am happy with all my features on the 6700, I just need it to work... Good thing I pay the 7bux a month for the insurance! I WILL get a new phone this weekend, whether it is a new/refurbished 6700 or a new 6800!! this is just too horrible.

anyways.. enough of my tirade.. anybody have this problem, and how did you fix this?

THANKS!!!

its your phone or just a service issue with sprint in the area. You could try to call and report an outage and see where that gets you

I had a similar problem right after I got mine. It turned out to be a bad connection to the antenna from the main board. I think it came loose after I tried to connect an external antenna. UTStarcom fixed it though.

Have you ever had good service with the phone? I've heard that the external/ internal antenna connection is exceptionally fagile. that just plugging the external in will kill the internal. So you may hve a good leg to stand on with replacement or upgrade.

Mid urban area like you are in should be fantastic signal.

It is ALL OVER the place!!

today, I am in smack dab in the middle of Roanoke, VA, and can't get over 1 bar and can't talk..

But, upon plugging in the external antennae, I get full signal strength.

I do LOVE the antennae tho.. I travel 1200-1600 miles a week and I can be all over.. and when the phone is docked in the car and I plug in the external antennae, I can make calls just about anywhere except at the bottom of a valley, between two mountains, and in West Virginia at that!!!

I am going Saturday to get a replacement, and if they give me another 6700, the problem will appear again shortly, cause I will use the antennae, and then, I will get the 6800 soon I am sure!!! I rely on the phone too much, and use it alot (HUD Property inspector), and I will be nice to the reps at the store, but be very assertive and not let them dick me around..

I have heard that plugging in and unplugging an external antennae does mess these up, but think about it... IT SHOULDN'T!!!! if they can't make it good enough to stand that, then it is crap!

Thanks again!!! and, no outages, it is all over (to the 1st reply to my original)!
