Wireless Internet Sharing...
This might be a weird question..
Does anyone know if there is a way to make the PPC6700 a wireless router or access point. I have some devices that do no have bluetooth, but do have WiFi. If I can connect the device to the PPC6700 via WiFi to tether the internet connection. Thanks! |
no its not even a possibilty. You could connect it to a PC with WMODEM and use a desktop computer as an access point. but thats just silly

it's an interesting idea... I don't see why it's "technically" impossible... though to my knowledge no one has written the software to make that happen.
It's kind of a nifty idea. Way better really then all this Wmodem crap. Just connect your phone to sprint or verison's network, then turn on your wifi... That would be way better and the phone has more then enough processing power and memory to make that work. But you'd need a special program.... which I don't believe exists yet. Anyone out there looking to make a million dollars? Make that software. You'll make at LEAST a million dollars. |
windows mobile cant assign ip addresses. i knew with all the new people on the forums since wm6 we would get this question again. it would be nice, but its not possible with windows mobile. maybe if the effort to hack linux onto the apache were to start up again it could happen...

I'm pretty sure a few people at PDAPhoneHome claimed to have an HTTP proxy working. I never followed up on it after that, but I know people had browsers working.

I think we all have the same idea. After looking at the ipod touch, its lack of BT, has us all thinking....
iPod touch --wifi ---> PDA phone ----> EVDO well, maybe not all of us, but that's what I'm thinking. Make the ipod Touch browse through my evdo connection. I've spent the better part of the past 3 hours poking around. There's this "controlap" which is a java app that proportedly runs on WM devices. I'm trying that now but I'm having issues getting it going that I'm half-a$$ing my way though. The link there is http://controlap.com/ What started me on this was demonstrating how easy it was and the security implications for anyone to masquerade as an AP. Then, of course, I was thinking -- with a PDA, man would that be dangerous and would certainly demonstrate the security point I was trying to make. Of course, a quick tier 4 search (google) and I come across this link http://www.bestsecuritytips.com/news+article.storyid+192.htm So, someone already thought the same thing. I'm still thinking. If I get controlap to work, I'll let you know. Otherwise, it might be one of those things that take a few weeks off and figure out and write some code at the same time ;-) -- I'd rather just play integrator, mind you (don't we all). |
This idea has been going around forever. The only thing I've seen that works is the HTTP proxy, and that is very limited in it what you can do with it. I still love the idea, and I'd pay a lot of money to get this working.

wow, that would be friggin awesome if the ppc could be turned into a wireless "router"
it would be so convenient to have the ppc wired to my computer for internet, while the front computer could access it via the wifi. someone needs to jump on this application, i'd pay money for that |
actually, windows mobile can assign ip addresses, it does so when you use Internet Connection Sharing. Now, if you could hack the ICS app to use WiFi as well as bluetooth and USB..... That's really what we want...

ControlAP sounds promising, although their website is rather vague about the PPC program's abilities. I haven't even been able to get it to run with the java VM's I've tried. Anyone have any luck?
