Upgrading radio to 1.14 with WM6

I just installed the new WM6 release, and I'm trying to install the radio version 1.14. It won't let me. I've even tried adding the radio_.nbf file to the wm6 upgrade utility, but I still get

error 120: country id error.

The ROM image that you are trying to use is not designed to work with your device. Please check your carrier's web site and download the correct ROM update.

Has anyone gotten this to work yet?

Trident 09-05-2007 01:57 PM

I had the 1.41 radio installed prior to going to the WM6 ROM and it is still working well.
I installed it separately when I had the WM5 AKU3.5 ROM installed.

Kolano 09-05-2007 02:06 PM

Flash an older 3.5 ROM, Flash to Radio 1.14, Flash to WM6

angel12 09-05-2007 03:24 PM

i flashed to it just fine, but i had to use my xp machine, never flash a radio rom on a vista machine. ever.

ditto here. I flashed radio 1.41 seperately before installing wm6. i'm really seeing the benefits of it now too! Good luck.

The radio 1.41 upgrade REALLY made a huge difference for me. This upgrade was absolutely well worth putting in.

In regards to what Angel12 said, the only machine I have ever used for flashing anything, rom/extrom/radio, is a vista machine and I have very rarely run into any problems so I am not sure why he is saying this.
As far as upgrading the radio is concerned, what I did is flashed to wm6 using the included utility, then I used the Phoenix06 radio upgrade utility (available on the ftp) to flash the radio and the blank extrom. Worked perfectly.
Make sure your phone is in bootloader before plugging the phone in, the use the Phoenix06 radio upgrade and it should work. When I got the country ID error it was because I put my phone in bootloader while it was plugged in, rather than before it was plugged in. It should work flawlessly.

i didnt think you could flash from vista, from what i can see (i tried and it did not work) was the device shows up unreconized as a usb device and thus cannot be connected to

the18thtee 09-05-2007 06:58 PM

Yeah, flashing from vista is easy and works fine. If you run into problems, run the upgrade utility in WinXPSP2 Compatibility Mode. It worked fine for me when I ran into problems. Try connecting and upgrading/downgrading your drivers (if necessary). Maybe if you gave me some more details about your problem I would be able to help.

angel12 09-05-2007 07:25 PM

i can flash everything but the radio rom in vista, no matter what vista machine i flash from, it errors out halfway through the upgrade, and i have to reflash a radio through an xp machine.

if you have the new mobile device center in vista, it works.

What error?
What radio upgrade util are you using?
Have you tried the steps I posted above?

i was using phoenix's radio upgrade, it works great on my xp, maybe i just have a picky anti-vista unit.

the18thtee 09-05-2007 09:04 PM

Ok, but what is the error?
Have you tried compatibility mode or putting the phone in bootloader BEFORE you plug it in?
This site may help.

Thanks everyone. I ended up downgrading back to 3.5 and then adding the radio in, and then putting 6 back on the phone.

Good deal. Did you notice a difference with the upgraded radio unit? It made a huge difference for me.

Jay6700 09-06-2007 07:18 AM

I've searched and searched, and cannot find the radio upgrade. Could someone please provide a link to where i can get it? Thanks.

Jay6700 09-06-2007 07:36 AM

Found, and upgraded, while running WM6. I have win xp and it upgraded with no problems. What's the advantage?

linenoise 09-06-2007 12:17 PM

I actually just downgraded back to the stock radio. For some reason, the 1.14 will not download weather information withen the HTC 6 button weather plugin.

omegax 09-06-2007 04:40 PM

it sounds to me like someone forgot you MUST kill windows mobile device center before flashing. WMDC can be killed via task manager. downgrade driver. bootloader mode. tada vista does just fine.

the18thtee 09-06-2007 04:51 PM

Good point omegax.
Anyone having trouble with vista flashing should definitely take a look at that link I posted before. It gives the same advice omegax gave with lots of detail and pictures (for noobs).

You can do an upgrade to your radio to 1.44 without having to flash your rom back to the original rom. I just upgraded my radio from 1.27 to 1.44 running helmi_c's wm6 rom. Do a search for "flash radio" in the HTC APACHE forums and scroll down to the link that says "upgrading to 1.41 radio" and it has the download of the radio file and instructions. It was very easy to do...

tunerstk 09-08-2007 01:43 AM

Could somone please put a link to the radio upgrade Im sure I can find it. This might be useful to have this link in a thread so relavant?

rbeaufor 09-09-2007 08:36 PM

I too flashed to radio 1.41 prior to the upgrade to WM6. Link follows

http://forum.ppcgeeks.com/showthread...=radio+upgrade

My results have not been as positive.

I seem to stay in 1X as opposed to EVDO...

The areas where my phone had a weak signal before, it seems weaker now (less bars, more dropped calls).

I'm considering going do 1.27 (I went straight from 1.1x to 1.41 before)

Anyone else have less than optimal results?

Anything else I should be trying (maybe a registry tweak or two)?

DelRWheeler 09-11-2007 10:08 AM

Where can I find the 1.41 upgrade files?
I cannot seam to find them on PPCGEEKS.COM
Thanks,
Del

Where can I find the 1.41 upgrade files for the radio on PPC6700?
Thanks,
Del

Del,
The zip file is attached to the first post in the thread referenced by rbeafor above yours. I assume you found it after registering. (Attached files and links are not accessible to unregistered visitors.)

EtherealRemnant 09-14-2007 02:48 AM

I wouldn't recommend messing around with this radio upgrade. Numerous people have had problems with it and my problem is so bad that I may just have to go to the Sprint store and pray they will give me a NEW 6700 instead of a refurb.......
