upgrade bootloader?
im all about stayign up to date. But I know on my main phone I use, it has BL 1.00 and I was wondering if this is an upgradable thing? Or is it a firmware to hardware type isue that merely is dependant on what phone you have and was made a what time? If it is upgradable, what are the pros/cons? THX

Actually you gain 3MB of storage but lose 3MB off the CE ROM partition.
Trust me, been there, done that. You don't want the new bootloader. I spent days and days pulling my hair out trying to get rid of it. |
Hey maybe someone can help... I have been trying to get my phone to go into "bootloader mode" so I can load the new radio version onto my phone because my signal reception sucks... but i cant get my phone to go into "bootloader" mode. Acordding to phonex im supposed to push the record button power button and push the little button with my stylus at the same time but that just restarts my phone. I have a Sprint Mogul / PPC 6800! Can someone please tell me how to put my phone in "bootloader" mode or tell me how to update my radio so i can have better reception?
|
Those are the correct buttons but you should hold down the power and record buttons first, and once you make sure you've got them both firmly pressed then you put the stylus in the reset hole.
Edit: Whoops. You can't load an Apache ROM on a mogul and it uses a different button sequence for bootloader anyway. Sorry for the confusion. |

Upgrade the bootloader?
Is it possible to upgrade the bootloader itself? My Apache has 1.02, and judging from the kitchens, newer versions of the booloader program exist.
It's not a big deal. My bootloader works just fine. This is more a general inquiry. Thanks! |
Merging with previous thread. Please search first before posting a new thread.
Thanks. |

I swear I did search before I posted. I searched both here and at xda. I didn't see any threads dealing with my question. Sorry to duplicate someone else's question. But back to the question, you mentioned that you had the new bootloader on your device. So it is possible to upgrade it? Other than the 3 MB of storage, are there other pros/cons? Is there a detailed process somewhere for upgrading the bootloader? Sorry again for duplicating threads... |
Yes it is very simple to upgrade the bootloader--too simple in fact. The point is that you don't want to upgrade it. It will prevent many ROMs from working on your device. There are no advantages whatsoever to upgrading it and trying to revert it back to the old version is extremely complex.
I know that runs contrary to the "newer=better" mantra about tech, but in this particular case you really don't want the new bootloader. |
My bootloader will not load as well. I have an Apache 6700 (Sprint) with ROM V2.06, Radio V1.27. I have been trying for some 6 hours reading, searching and reading some more. All I can get is a dark screen with USB on top and v1.00 on the bottom. These are barely visible with the dark screen. That is with the USB cable plugged in. If I remove it I get Serial v1.00. I have looked every where for the Bootloader version but can't find it. I have NOT installed a different Bootloader. Anyone? I am pushing the Recorder and Power buttons firmly and reset while continuing to hold the Power and Recorder buttons.

OK now that I feel almost idiotic following the Quick How to:
1. Put your device in bootloader mode (RECORD+POWER+RESET) and click APAC_WM6_R0_[Ur Operator name].EXE then click install wait till it finish. Their is nothing to click on. I have the so.rar (which I renamed wm6.rar) stored in the root dir on the storage card. Post after post everyone raves about helmi's great job but nobody appears to be having the problem I've encountered. (not criticizing, just feeling very inapt at the moment) I have search for more in depth instructions to no avail. While I'm admitting my ignorance I would like to have [Ur Operator name] clarified. |

bislon, you have to put the phone in bootloader. extract the rar on your computer using winrar (www.rarlabs.com) and click on the exe file named APAC_WM6_R0_"ur carrier name" the your carrier name part refers to the cellphone company you bought your phone from. |

Thanks for the help. I've not used RAR files on the computer before. I just wasn't thinking that I had to extract the file. My Mad Cow must have acted up again. All is good and I have almost a new phone thanks to Lord Helmi and your help. |
Where is the install option?
All I can get is a dark screen with USB on top and v2.02 on the bottom. These are barely visible with the dark screen. That is with the USB cable plugged in. If I remove it I get Serial v2.02. I have the .rar opened and saved on my phone card so the .exe is ready to go. How do I start the .exe from the USB screen? Thanks |

I can't get my phone to hook up properly to my PC when it bootloader mode. The screen remains on Serial instead of saying USB and the PC pops up a message saying unrecognized USB device.
Any ideas? |
Bootloader Change
Ok so I ended up using the new ROM from the UTStarcom.com site for my xv6700 and now my bootloader version says it is 1.04 and I can not seem to load any other ROM now. Any way to upgrade or downgrade my bootloader version so I can once again load ROM's since I would love to get back to the new WM6 ROM I was running before I made the mistake of updating with the offical ROM to update my Radio and stuff. Any help would be great thanks. ](*,)

|
Maybe Luv2Chill (or another member) can shed some light on the issue. I dont have this issue but I would still like to learn how incase I do ever get a new phone and it it already upgraded.

naigaman/naigaboy has updated his first post on the sticky to include the reverting procedure and to outline some other things related to bootloader and what upgrade utilities are compatible with which bootloaders.
