I need to downgrade to WM5 - PIM.vol doesn't work and need contacts

Sorry for the nub question, but can someone point me in the right direction to downgrade my 6700 from the new WM6 back to WM5. My SPB backup wont restore on WM6, so now I'm without contacts. Unless someones found away around the format change in the PIM.vol, I'll just go ahead and downgrade, then upgrade again.

Thanks ahead of time.

Not sure how to get around this sorry.. But for future knowledge ALWAYS sync contacts and stuff before flashing!!!

You can have ActiveSinc save them to Outlook automatically and them load them on your machine when you sinc up after the upgrade.

Which carrier?

Here is the UTStarcom download page. Just choose the proper rom. Also, I would suggest grabbing PimBackup from over at xda to back you info up. But, Activesync will work fine as well.

Thanks for the help. I should of thought of USStarcom myself. I'll give PIMbackup a try. SPB has been great for me up to this point, but this attempt has been a headache.

I'm surprised. SPB Backup works great on my WM6 device with no problems.

zachspda 09-02-2007 12:28 AM

did you try a full restore or only a partial one. If you tried a full try just doing a partial or custom restore of only your contacts.

TheHide 09-02-2007 01:34 PM

to piggy back on what colonel, you can even get any one of the roms that are supplied here.

stronggeek 09-02-2007 08:32 PM

ssues with active sync lately so PIMbackup was the choice for me.

It does work well on 06 , just not the for the way he tried to use it.

Like bsgjunkie I tried to restore from SPB backup and ended up with the same results.

Had to downgrade to OS5, restore w/SPB backup, backup with PIM back, upgrade to OS6 and then finally restore with PIMbackup.

Sure hope I can get activesync working soon anyway.

I'm not even sure what went wrong!

I need to Flash back to WM5 as well (gotta take my phone in to sprint) but (and maybe i am just not looking) i don't see the link on the utstarcom site that you listed that allows me to flash it back to WM5!?!? If someone could point me in the right direction i would greatly appreciate it.

ALSO, when i do actually find the .cab (assuming it is a .cab file) do i put the phone in bootloader mode, like i did to upgrade to WM6? anyone's help would be greatly appreciate it. (yea...i know me being a noob is really showing right now)

Montstah,
It would be easier to help you if you had answered the question that colonel posed at the beginning of your quote, "Which carrier?". You must follow the colonel's link directly to come to an ftp-type listing of files with goofy filenames, then pick the most recent executable file of around 40MB that applies to your carrier. The list is not very user friendly since it's really not designed to be directly viewed - rather, this is the page that your own carrier's web site gets its 6700 support downloads from. (You could also navigate the UTStar.com site to some download links that appear to be for your device, but at least in my experience these links have become non-functioning in the last few months.)

The UTStarcom update file is a Win32 executable not a cab - you run it on your pc after connecting your device via active sync - no bootloader mode required.

you're rite...i didn't even realize i didn't answer the question as to wot i am using. i have sprint (PPC 6700). you are also right about the files being goofy and what not. i was sitting there trying to locate sprints update and well...i am posting on here so that should answer the question as to wot i have found. sorry bout not listing my carrier...

TMB_XV6700 10-01-2007 08:41 AM

Sprint is this one: http://www.utstar.com/pcd/downloads/...0_WWE_Ship.exe
Although you're just flashing to return the phone to Sprint so it doesn't matter to you, this rom does NOT include the DST patch (unlike the latest kitchens and WM6). DST patch (for all carriers) is here: http://www.utstar.com/pcd/downloads/...%20PPC6700.zip
