Opera 8.65 beta OEM
 

Is such a thing possible or is Opera one of those apps that doesn't work well built into the ROM?

I searched and didn't get any results for opera & oem. I figure enough people use Opera that we'd have one by now if it was doable right?

I not positively sure but if out great ROM builders have other apps built into the ROM and self-install with everything else, then why not Opera as well?

I say that to say this, Im sure it can be done but overall, EVERYONE uses PIE because it is the native and default browser. Every other browser is based on personal preference and while some may like Opera (I do), not everyone does. And so you build a ROM with a browser that not everyone likes. This leads to people having to uninstall it and reinstall whatever they like.

Plus you have to look at the legal standpoint. Opera Mobile isnt free by default. No one is going to take the risk of putting out a custom ROM with a full version of Opera Mobile which would potentially given out to hundreds (likely more than that) of users here on this board and then spread to other boards and communities. So the legal standpoint is something else to look at.

Now if YOU built your own ROM and include Opera and use it for personal usage then that is another matter. But building for mass distribution is another issue.

Also the directory layout expected by Opera makes installing it to ROM mostly pointless, as most files need to be copied to main memory. All it really does is waste space in the ROM.
