Dormant Connection Issue & Others

Hi,

My XV6700 is having a recurring issue. The internet connection will go dormant (connected but no arrows). Which is fine, however sometimes it will refuse to resume causing the internet to not work. Anyone know what is going on? This has occurred with my the original verizon radio rom, with the sprint radio rom, and the new 1.41 radio rom. It has occurred with the unified kitchen and Helmi Kitchens 1.02-1.04. Has weather panel been known to cause these issues?

Another issue not dependent on Rom is that the phone will sometimes freeze the second you attempt to pickup an incoming call. It will also sometimes give you an error that it can't call out when there is full signal strength. Has anyone experienced this?

Should I get my phone replaced?

Thanks,
Nite Rider

What do you mean by "refuse to resume"? Do you get an error message or does it try to connect then fail? Details...
And if you are on Verizon, why are you using/trying Sprint roms/radios/anything?
If im not mistaken, when the arrows disappear, that means there is no connection, not that it has idled. The idle indication is greyed arrows.
These issues you are having sound (to me) like a problem created by switching between different carrier roms/radios/anything.
A good way to make sure that you have all the right settings for VZW is to flash back to the Stock ROM, hard-reset, and go through all of the reactivation procedures (*228, etc.) and then upgrade to the 1.0.4. kitchen with the built in carrier customizations, hard-reset, then soft reset when the "customizing in 3 seconds" box pops up (or just flash the blank extrom).
It is never a good idea to use upgrades that are for other carriers.

As for the phone freezing problem, I have heard that voice command can cause problems like this, or any other software installed that works with the phone program. Do you have anything like this installed?
The inability to call out, once again, sounds like it is related to the different carrier software you have switched between.

In any case, it is probably a good idea to flash back to stock then reupgrade.

I have been having the same problems. I have a Sprint PPC6700. My experience with "refuse to resume" was that the gray arrows would not "turn white" again thus cannot access the internet. This is accompanied by not able to receive phone calls or call out with error message saying unable to complete call or something to that effect. I have missed a number of phone calls because of this and was forced to soft-reset the phone at least once a day at its worst. One time a call came in and the notification icon turned to "phone on signal bars" as it normally does just before the phone rings but the phone never rang. Half-hour later, the same icon was still there and I had to soft-reset to get the phone functionality back.

I have only been using Sprint customized roms until a few days ago. I don't remember whether I had this problem with the original 2.2 stock rom because I upgraded to a custom rom not long after I bought the phone. I also don't clearly remember having this particular problem while using the unified 3.5 roms (if it did, not so often), so the problem might had gotten worse for me with the latest roms that I really took notice. (I used 1.0.2 and 1.0.4) I have updated to 1.41 radio and 20229 PRL and made no difference. Right now I am on the 3.3 stock rom from Bell Mobility with a blank extrom. So far for two days I have not had the same problem. Hope it will stay this way.

Also, when it happened, it seemed to be in 1X mode most of the time. I found one workaround that keeps the connection off entirely instead of staying dormant by setting the registry key
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Comm\ConnMgr\Planner\Settings]
"SuspendResume"="GPRS_bye_if_device_off" (original value is #777)
I have only tried this key for a few hours and verified that it does turn off connections. My current flash seems to work fine so I changed the key back to its original value to see if it is going to stay stable at its default settings.

Another interesting note, I use the Slide2UnLock program which shows the current network on its lock screen. When the phone was having the problem, the network string would say No Service. Yet the signal bar looked normal on the today screen. (And of course, in my last 1.0.4 flash, I did not install the Slide2UnLock or any other program and made no difference)

I have been having this issue as well. I Upgraded to the WM6 and things were working great for a week, then it started to freeze when would have a call come in. Then my text messages would hang and not send or receive, then it got to where I would dial a number and it would say service not available or number is incorrect. At that same time, any calls to me would go directly to voicemail. I restored to the factory ROM thinking it was a WM6 problem and I still have the same problems.

Currently (with WM5 back on) I get texts and the incoming call pop-up, but when I press answer, it just sits there and doesn't do anything.

I've seen it myself with the 6700, stock rom, WM5, WM6, all the radios, various PRLs... I never could figure it out - it would be great for long periods of time, then wig out in the same location where it used to work.

It seemed to have something to do with switching towers and/or marginal signal areas. So far, the mogul has not done this to me (obviously its being used in the same way as the 6700 it replaced) which makes me think its something specific with the 6700 radio.

I spoke with a tech support and he said there was a known bug with the 6700 where it would go into flight mode, but not say it's in flight mode. I'm not sure that would be occurring when I receive the call and it freezes.

I did however have to call them and have the sprint pcs vision re-provisioned. I never did get it set up right when I got the phone. I had a data lock on my plan so I wouldn't use any data by accident. Perhaps it was trying to constantly provision and this caused the phone to lock up when receiving a call?
