Qwerty Keyboard question

Hi,
I hardly every use the hardware keyboard, and have a little issue.
I tried using it today, and when I hit a letter in the top row it is entering the numbers instead.
I've tried pushing the caps key and the red dot key to change it back, but that doesn't work.
Does anyone know how to get the top row back to typing letters?
Thanks

Is it just the top row, or all rows that are messed up? If it's just the top row, I'd bet on hardware failure. If it's all rows, then your red dot key is likely stuck/broken. Sounds like a hardware problem either way.

Just the top row, and I've really only used it once a long time back, so I can't figure what caused it?

Push the red dot key twice and it should work for text again. Pushing it twice will lock it on numbers only again and is a normal function.

Thanks, but that didn't get it either. It does do it for the letters under top row though. This is frustrating!

Okay, this is odd. What I'm trying to do is type on the today screen.
I bought a sort of google search program that puts a search bar on the today screen.
I just went into Phatnotes and the keyboard works fine with it, just not playing nice with the home screen, odd..

That is what its supposed to do. Annoying isnt it?

Edit: I guess I could have expanded on this. On the base software install, from the Today screen if you open the keyboard and press a number, the phone app opens. It expects that you will be dialing a phone number. The symptoms you see are a left-over from this feature.

Actually it's a program called UltimateSearch by GX5.
I wrote to them, so I'll wait and see what they have to say.

This issue has always existed with the Apache (since the very first official ROMs) and will affect any and all today plugins that take text input.

Seems to have something to do with dialing phone numbers--as you will note that it's only the number keys (0-9), the *, #, and + keys that are affected.

Other devices have the same problem (Universal, Wizard, etc.), so it's seems to be caused by the way HTC wrote its keyboard drivers--perhaps they were intending to include some kind of today screen dialer?

In any case, it's been fixed in the WM6 devices I have seen (since they ship with the Windows Live search today plugin). For the Apache you're pretty much SOL though... sorry.

Thanks, guess I'll just deal with it, and search with this the best I can.
