charging/power light not on

I think the phone is charging... plugging it into the compuer allows me to sync and view files, but the orange light does not come on, and the backlight still goes off after 30 seconds, despite my settings while plugged into external power.
Is this a known bug or something that people have had occur often? and is there a fix?
using 3.5 (1.04)

Did you check your allledmgr settings in the registry? This was a known bug for BigJs roms but not for Helmis.

Since you wrote that comment as if you weren't exactly sure and so I was going to tell you to go and check your power settings to verify and confirm, but I guess by now you KNOW if it is charging or not because you would have a dead phone on your hands. :roll:

I have no idea about the LED status other than what has already been said.

It looks to me like your phone is not charging. This is definitely a known issue and has been discussed here and on some of the other boards.
Consensus seems to be that it's related to inadequate electrical charging current and is usually seen with aftermarket chargers - usually car chargers and (for me) combination chargers.
Maybe your PC's USB port has a problem; have you tried a different port, or a different charging source altogether?

Possible workarounds have been:
Be sure the device is suspended when you first connect it to the charger/USB port;
Wait a few (up to 15) minutes - charging might start eventually;
Change your battery or remove it and charge it in the cradle (seems to happen more with a nearly discharged battery).
Try again later.
(If none of these worked and all I had was a PC for charging, then I would also try turning off all radios on the phone and turning off active sync on the PC before turning phone off and connecting it.)

Very good suggestions TMB.
I would try all of those and see what happens.

I have this problem occasionally with my car charger and I think it may be related to bluetooth or some other service preventing the OS from registering that it's plugged in.

Try these steps:
1) Make sure the power source is unplugged and press the power button to sleep the device (LCD screen completely off, not just no backlight).
2) Plug the power cord in and wait for a few seconds. (This works 90% of the time for me)
3) If the charging light doesn't come on, try steps 1 and 2 again.
4) If it still doesn't come on, turn off bluetooth and try steps 1 and 2
5) If it still doesn't come on, turn off any bluetooth devices that may be trying to pair with the ppc (maybe bluetooth doesn't get turned all the way off?) then steps 1 and 2
6) If it still refuses to turn on, make sure bluetooth is turned off and soft reset with the phone unplugged (if bluetooth is still on when you reset it will try to turn on automatically on reset - I think) then steps 1 and 2

It seems to be vitally important to have the power cord unplugged before putting the ppc to sleep.

fyi...

I have been having these issue. What I do is hit the power button on the phone and within a few seconds(35 or so) the led comes on. If the phone is on the led never comes on.

i have the issue with my car charger but found this out.

Reboot the xv6700
let it reboot
power it off
then plug in the charger
with the device OFF the little orange lite comes on..

if you reboot with the charger pluged it the 6700 gives and error on the battery life.
