fat32?
I've recently updated my PPC to the new kitchen rom, but before that my PPC would not read memory cards formated in Fat32.
I only have one memory card... a 4GB one... and I'd rather not delete it to find out because it would take awhile to set it up properly again (I have it partitioned into two 2GB partitions). Anyway, it's always seemed strange that fat32 was on the 6700 by default. Has this been added by the kitchen rom? if not, does anyone know where/how to make the 6700 fat32 compatible? I'd rather be using a file system invented in the 1996 rather then 1984... |
Those 4GB cards are extremely unreliable at best. I would get a hold of another card and see if your problem isn't the crappy 4GB card.
|
unreliable how? I didn't buy it off ebay or anything. I got it from place that sells them for cameras. It's always worked very well. The only issue is that the PPC won't read it if formated in Fat32.
Are you telling me that the 6700 has always been able to read Fat32 and it's only my card that has issues with that format? Please... just tell me, is the 6700 fat32 compatible or not? |
Yes, it is compatible with fat32.

so I should stick to 2GB cards if I want to use 32 bit? Or do I have to drop down to 1GB?
Either way, I've got the 4GB card working perfectly... it was an ordel... but it's nice not to have to swap cards in and out. In fact, even 4GB isn't really enough... I like to watch movies on my phone :D |
I think we all want bigger cards. Unfortunately the maximum size the apache hardware truly supports is 2GB. The 4GB cards that are out there will be flaky at best.
You can use any size card up to 2GB without any problems whatsoever. |
I've been using a 4gb (non-SDHC of course) miniSD for the past few months and I haven't had any hiccups. I keep a spare 2gb around with all my programs backed up on it in the event the 4gb poops out.
I'm with you Karmashock, it's nice to be able to kick back and watch movies on those long plane rides without having to break out the lappy. (On a side note...TCPMP doesn't hardly use up any of my battery!) |

I can get the whole 4GB to format to fat16 but I get errors from the camera if it tries to save files to it... and some programs if they run on it cause disk corruption causing the whole card's partition to be destroyed. So I split the card with WM5 Storage into two 2GB partitions and everything is great now. So far as the OS is concerned I have "two" 2GB memory cards. |
Well when I originally bought the card, I had previously done some searching around to find out if the 4gb would in fact work. I had read on numerous sites that people with fat32 formatted cards were having issues, so as soon as I received it, I formatted it to fat16. The 2gb card is formatted to fat32 and I've never had a problem with it.
Although I did have an "el cheapo" Kingmax 2gb card (one of those ebay specials that was probably a piece of junk) that failed after two weeks of use. |
