NVM is locked!!!
I've tried to change the ESN following all the steps taught here correctly with no luck. The folder NVM in my UTstarcom PPC6700 is locked.
Can somebody help me, please? |
This is the 6800 forum and we know the NVM is locked for the mogul. I am moving this post to the Apache forum for the issue with the 6700. If you can be a little more specific on what the error message or what step exactly you are performing that would also help.

Hi Friend
By saying that I used QPST (EFS Explorer) to get to the nvm and I could extract the $SYS.ESN and by using “esnchksm.exeâ€, to get the new ESN number, I did everything correct, but when I tried to overwrite it, it appeared the following massage:
“An error occurred when trying to write the file ‘nvm/$SYS.ESN’ to the phone. Error code (104): File openâ€. I believe that even if I were doing something wrong in the file, that couldn't stop the overwrite, am I wrong? Sorry if it's difficult to understand what I'm trying to say! I'm Brazilian. |
Did you copy the $SYS.ESN file to your computer via QPST, then open it with an appropriate editor (for example, hexeditor?)? Did you then save and close the file? The error message suggests the ESN file is open on either the phone or the computer, not really "locked."

What are you trying to do exactly?

I found the solution
First, I`d like to thank you all for trying to help, but I found the problem. I was using an old version of QPST. It was QPST 2.7 Build 8. I downloaded a newer version Build 19, then I tried again and it worked perfectly. Now I got a new ESN number for my PPC6700.
