disable camera

hey everyone... I've looked a haven't seen anything about this. If there is... sorry

ok here goes... I work for a tire company who has become anal about cameras in work place. I love the functionality of my 6700... but shouldn't have camera in there.

Outside of removing camera (which i still like using from time to time) what are my options? Can I simply cook a rom leaving software out (which would suck) or is it possible to make it appear that camera doesn't work when program is started (possibly even come up with alert on phone that says... "this camera doesn't work due to a sorry company policy").... but have a back door program that would allow me access to camera when not at work??

Any help would be great.... thanks to everyone and their hard work on making 6700 so much better.

I actually preffered the Samsung i730 for many reasons including much nicer screen, more memory overall nicer unit. The only problem was it didnt come with a Camera. You might consider looking for one on ebay on the cheap as an alternative to beat the anal regs.

You might also create a fake shortcut using the Camera Icon. If your boss asks click it and say you removed the software just for him :)

Just a thought

you could always divert the camera button to something diferent, like voice command? or a calculator... and as long as your boss isnt too tech savy.. you could show him the camera doesnt work anymore :)... you could delete the shortcut in programs too, I'm sure if your using file commander you could just copy it elsewhere.. just a thought. sorry its nothing super clever.

You should switch the camera button and the voice record or IE button. That way he hits the camera button but it goes to something else.

or

I would re-rout the button like they said and have it in your start menu. The icon is so little it won't be too easily recognizable. Or use o2 or something and put it in a different tab than 'main.'

If you truly want the button to do nothing... cook a ROM with the latest kitchen and select the "DoNothing" and use the "Buttons" app in Settings to remap to DoNothing.

Then to be safe you should move the shortcut to Camera under /Windows/Start Menu/Programs to somewhere safe for later use.

Then again... if you want to be honest with your boss, I'm sure it would be possible to completely remove the camera functionality from your phone if you cook your own ROM.

I wrote a quick app. It just gives you a window that says "Camera is broken".
There's also a link in the zip file...

1. Unzip the zip.
2. Put Mbox.exe in \My Documents
3. Move Camera from \Windows\Start Menu\Programs to \My Documents
4. Put the new Camera included in the zip into \Windows\Start Menu\Programs

Your button assignment shouldn't have to be changed because the link has changed, and you can still get to the real camera by clicking the link you moved to My Documents :)

I made the icon a little red X so he really knows it's broken :P

it would be awesome to hit camera button and a screen opens and tells them what i think of their sorry policy ;)

if i cook a rom and leave HTC camera out...will that make camera un usable?? is that all it would take?

Hehe. No.. it's hardcoded in. What do you want it to say?
Maybe "Camera functionality has been removed." ?
