PPC6700 Unlock?
 

I'm pretty new to these phones, and I have some questions. I'm gonna be buying a Sprint 6700, and I wanted to know if it can be unlocked.

Now, currently I'm using Alltel, and they told me when I got my account "No phones other than the ones you buy from us can be used." Now, I know that is complete bull, so how can this be done? Can I unlock it to work with Alltel's services?

If not, can I unlock it to work with Cricket's network? If all else fails, Cricket is good and cheap.

I know for a fact it can be unlocked for cricket, all you have to do is change the prl file, i believe picture messaging won't work, as for alltel I dont see why not, im sure there is a way to do some sort of complete flash. i have done it on razrs and krazr but never on a ppc.

Okay cool. Like I said, Alltel told me that only "THEIR PHONES PURCHASED FROM THEIR STORE", but I knew it was bull. I got this 6700 for $100, and it would of cost me $400 or so from them. They just want the money.

You would have to do a lot of work, And some shady practices which are technically considered illegal... But yes, You can switch a CDMA type phone from one carrier to another. (As long as its ESN isnt flagged as stolen)

Yea, I know he didn't get it illegally, or me for that matter. He bought it brand new a year ago, and even had the receipt for it still in the box. The only reason he sold it to me cheap was because he bought an iPhone.

Know of any good links that will help me out with the unlocking process of the 6700? I guess I could just search the forums, but there might be some good external links.

i findmyself in similar situation. I have aan xv6700 on verizon that I own legally but i want to use it on sprint , where I also have service. I do not want to buy a new ppc6700 when i have an xv6700 in fine working order. Surely there must be a way to do this...please help

Sprint will not activate ESNs that are not their own. I have heard of people having rare success getting a phone activated on Verizon, but I would not count on it. Cricket does it because, well, its cricket.

So I'm just curious here...is it possible to swap ESN's from a branded phone on the verizon network with a sprint 6700? Basically taking the ESN from the verizon phone and putting it on the sprint, then trying to activate the sprint phone with verizon? Only reason why I ask is I've read a few posts here and there about it...and it's just kind of interesting. *coughandi'veconsidereddoingitbeforecough*

Techically possible, yes. But it's fraught with other complications. Sprint and Verizon use totally different nvm configurations inside the CDMA chip. You'd have to find a way to change all that stuff over as well if you wanted a fully working device (i.e. data and voice).

Unless you're really knowledgable about CDMA and the way these phones work under the hood then it's probably a lot more trouble than it's worth.
