YAY! My sound stopped working!! Help!

As if my day couldnt get any worse..
friggin earspeaker and rear speaker doesnt work..
checked the settings, hard resetted the phone, NOTHING. DEAD.

although, i do get sound through the jack with my wired earphone/mic

has there been any consistant issue of this? maybe a fix?
im really hesitant to open this thing up when i can just buy a BT headset.

i dont have a bluetooth headset yet, so im guessing this is my next route.
so is there a certain brand or model i should go after? I have a smaller sized head and ears.

im probably gonna do another rom upgrade just in case as a last resort..

Torx 07-14-2007 06:18 AM

okay, polargoat.. the sound is back after the 1.41 radio upgrade..
but im thinking its going to be intermittant because it didnt work immediately after it, i started playing around with the lower jack and my wired earphone/mic piece and the sound came back after i pulled it out..

im using helmi 3.5 r4 custom rom
ive even reflashed, and hard resetted a couple times but the sound didnt come back until now.. weird. i think im still gonna go for a bt headset although i dread another device that needs to be recharged, bt draining the batt on the phone, etc etc..

ive got the oem sprint rom "APA_SPCS_20600_303_12700_WWE_Ship.exe"
is this suitable or will it overwrite the 1.41 radio i just upgraded to?

angel12 07-14-2007 02:22 PM

i've seen a lot of this happening, just the connectors in the plug will short, and no audio through the speakers, so then you have to play with the plug to get sound to work again.

phoenx06 07-14-2007 03:04 PM

My 1.41 radio is magic! lol

Torx 07-14-2007 07:10 PM

whoa whoa whoa.. hold on now..

i downgraded to the sprint rom as noted above.
updated the radio
then cooked my own custom rom with hemi r4.
hard reset after all those.

i hard reset and sprint is downloading and installing those garbage cabs!
what the crap, it never did this before.

EDIT: nevermind, all that garbage was still in the ext rom from the oem sprint install, so i deleted all of it and am upgrading the helmi.. see what happens, prolly mess it all up.

EDIT2: SHEESHZUS christ!! its doing it again!! make it stop!

EDIT3: okay, i erased everything out of ext rom again, hard reset and its not installing the garbage.. now im just paranoid about lingering files or it doing it again without notice..

Torx 07-14-2007 10:15 PM

ahh okay!! thanks alot!

dugan661 07-15-2007 07:12 AM

TechnoHippie 07-16-2007 07:22 PM

arrrrggg! Now I've been having this problem the last few days.

Same isssue as you guys - no sound - and none via bluetooth either.

WTF!!!?

Torx 07-16-2007 08:32 PM

hmmm, interesting.

TechnoHippie 07-16-2007 11:16 PM

Yeah this really sucks - I'd say my 6700 is finally dead.

I don't have any external sound whatsoever. Nothing from the wired earpiece, the bluetooth, or the built-in external speaker.
The only sound I do hear is from the earpiece on the phone itself - so if someone calls I can hold the phone up to my ear and hear them - but to top everything else off the mic doesnt work either...so basicly the damn thing is useless now.

If I try to play some music or use the speaker I DO hear some static, but that's it.

I tried to reinstall the offical 2.2 AKU from Sprint (both the CE and Radio) and still nothing.

I dunno - it almost seems like it could be that stooopid little slidy volume control thingy on the left side of the phone.

The whole thing is strange though - it just started doing it on and off for a day or two - and now its completly soundless.

Damnit - I guess I can go buy a 6800 or something but damnit I even just bought a BT GPS and all kinds of goodies for this thing a few days ago.

If anyone has any other ideas I'm all ears - I really like the phone I hate to see it dead because of this...

TechnoHippie 07-16-2007 11:54 PM

Ok I'll try reinstalling the "APA_SPCS_20600_303_12700_WWE_Ship.exe" one a couple more times & let ya know how it goes...

One thing I just noticed...I DO hear a beep from the external speaker on hard-resets....and I DO hear static when tryin to use the external speaker too - so now Im wondering if it IS a software issue...freakn pain in the butt...geeze

TechnoHippie 07-17-2007 12:05 AM

well still nuttin. was there anything else you guys did after installing and letting the extended rom do its thing?

I was even thinkin of downloading the bell 3.1 one just to try that...

Same for me. Occasionally, at random the sound will not work at all, either through the speaker or earpiece, including through a soft reset, until something is plugged into the port again.

Which is why I always test the sound using the volume slider beeps after unplugging a headset or headphones from the port, so that I'm not stuck later without sound and without an adapter and headphones to fix it. Just another of the endless annoyances and problems with this phone.

TechnoHippie 07-17-2007 12:21 AM

yeah I thought of that too - but in my case I haven't had anything plugged into speaker jack in months - so I dont thing that's it (although I did try messing with it).
Thing is I DO kinda get sound from the speaker - its just all static..
freakn little pile of junk..arrrrg!

TechnoHippie 07-17-2007 12:37 AM

heh...well I wouldn't happen to be that lucky. (girly-girl had habbit of her phone ending up in the swiming pool)
Think I'll let it install the offiical AKU one more time then go drink a beer or ten and see if it's magicly come back to life or not.
Phone prolly wont work but I wont give a shit anymore..ha (at least until I wake up with a hangover...)
grrrrrr...

delsadarline 07-17-2007 09:04 AM

hi I have been lurking , waiting and hoping that a solution would be found. my sound has not been working for several. I have done a lot od googling on his issue and most of the answers state that the connection to the headset plug does not fully close after headphone being removed and that sometimes jiggling the pin helps......well that has NEVER solved my issue.

Maybe someone who is not having this problem can provide us with some insight.

I find it hard to believe it is hardware because when signal is lost I am able to hear the signal lost beep

bluetooth sound works fine and mine and when I plug in headphone I can hear sound well.

voicecalls are working fine

Now I read somewhere that there are two speakers. one that is unfindable or something like that.

another thing is that v2r Active UI program give me an error when I press normal or vibrate within the extras tab.....now I don't know if the error is related ti active ui or my phone but the error states that mute.exe is missing .....is this a file we are supposed to have ?

sorry if I gave tmi but I know this is a common problem. there has to be someone out there that has a solution....

TechnoHippie 07-17-2007 10:38 AM

delsadarline - your problem sounds a little different than mine. In my case the bluetooh and the headphones don't work either - the ONLY sound that works is the earpiece used when making calls - which is still useless to me because by mic doesn't work either.

I think I'm just screwed and going to have to buy another phone.

TechnoHippie 07-17-2007 01:11 PM

Well I've tried everything I can think of...I'm giving up on this 6700 - guess its just broken.

I'm leaving now to head off to a sprint repair center and see if they can do anything for me. I'll let ya all know how it went when I get back.

(fingers crossed - hopefully they'll be nice and give me a replacement one).

Elbimster 07-17-2007 02:12 PM

I periodically run into this problem on mine, most recently on a day when, awesomely, I had forgotten to bring my BT headset to work. Usually plugging and unplugging a wired headset a few times fixes it, sometimes it just fixes itself on it's own for no apparent reason. usually not an issue as i'm always on a BT headset, but annoying those times I forget it.

TechnoHippie 07-17-2007 02:47 PM

Well guys - my trip to the Sprint store went better than I expected.

The tech (who actually KNEW what the hell he was doing) did some diagnostics on the phone and sure enough it was a hardware problem...so bad news is the phone is indeed toast.

But...the GOOD news is that despite the fact I don't have insurance and have had the phone for like 18+ months - for $55 they replaced it with a BRAND NEW phone. Well considering the one I had was a refirbished one to start with and it was only 55 bucks - hell I'm happy!

So now I gotta brand new 6700 and I'm only out 55 bucks.

Guess its time to start loading the sucker up with the new radio and kitchen...

Anyway thanks everyone for trying to help me fix it.

dugan661 07-18-2007 03:52 AM

dang thats awesome!!

Torx 07-18-2007 05:17 AM

awesome deal man..

to those with the same issue as i had, plug something into the jack and pull it back out.. just as JeffT mentioned..

choke1781 11-21-2007 04:29 PM

Techno i just had the same problem with my phone. Lost sound to my external speaker, and microphone. pluggin in a headset does not work and neither does pairing with a bt. I have cleaned the pcb board 2 times really well hoping it was a small peace of dust cus the inside was so dusty but that did not work. So I have the feeling it is a hardware issue similar to yours. And I do not have insurance on this phone. The xv6800 dosent come out till dec 5th. Heading off to the vzw store to see what they can do for me and possiable a new phone untill I can get a xv6800.
