Shorted on storage memory!
Hey can anyone help me?
I got a refurb replacement 6700 from sprint. I kept running out of memory when reloading my stuff on the new unit and lo and behold I only got 39.59 mb of storage mem on this unit. I recall from my previous units I had 43.5 mb of storage mem. Has anyone seen this? Fixed it? The deficiency existed right out of the box, and persisted despite flashing to a new ROM, hard reset, soft reset etc. Sprint owes me a new phone. I need my extra 4mb! I just can't figure out why this would have happened. FYI: Memory CPL storage: total 39.59 .. program total 47.19 mb thanks all. |
that's correct for the version of the OS you have loaded on your 6700 - you are either misrecalling or you were not running the same OS.
|
Here's what my original PPC 6700 [the one being replaced for a dead joy pad]
memory CPL storage: total 43.50 mb .. program total 47.19 mb |
You have the same ROM on both devices?
|
Every AKU 3.x I have ever run, including the one on my 6700 right now, has
Storage: 39.59/Program: 49.20 Looks like you've got yourself some interesting ROM there... |
Running Helmi's 3.5 r4, and I have:
43.5 Storage, 49.20 Program. I feel special! |
gguruusa what is your bootloader version # (shown at the bottom of the bootloader screen)?
|
Nothing but the newest and proven reliable:
v1.00 (it's a miracle it even turns on) |
I've been having weird memory problems, I just redid my phone because I only had 4mb of storage left over... kept getting errors.
But I haveTotal 43.50mb of Storage Memory, and 49.20mb of program memory. |
Beats me. Mine's always been 39.x/47.x - perhaps there is some difference in various builds. In either case, I doubt Sprint will care, or will pony up a new phone (the point of this topic, after all)

OK here's the scoop. Apaches use a DOC (Disk-on-chip) for their flash storage. There are two hardware versions of that chip--G3 (which uses the 1.x level bootloader) and G4 (which uses the 2.x level). The G4 should have a bit better speeds but a bit less capacity than the G3 chip.
Sprint's model switched to G4 very early in its lifecycle. The only Sprint 6700s with the G3 chip are the original red-logos and some of the very early yellow-logo units. Everything else has been G4-based. Verizon seems to have many more G3s out there (plenty of verizon users have the 1.x bootloader) and also has some G4s. I'm not sure about other carriers. So anyway, you'll just have to settle for a bit less space, as finding new units with G3 chips is gonna be difficult. Consider it a tradeoff for slightly better read/write speeds |
Thanks, luv2chill and to everyone else for bothering to check their total storage memory.
I guess the increased speed makes me feel better about having less storage memory. Sure enough, my original phone was v.1.00. The replacement was 2.02. Both were yellow-logo units. In any case, Assurion, the equipment replacement company is still sending me a second replacement phone! |
